Well Mired Fair Grounds Case Yields Judge Powers Decision

Judge Gorham Powers filed a voluminous decision in the Willmar case M. T. Sandbo et al. v. J. P. Madison et al. The ruling finds Madison holds the land in trust for shareholders but claims a specific lien for moneys advanced, with lands to be sold and proceeds divided among shareholders by share count. The decision tallies shareholder ownership and sets disposition of the property and proceeds.

The Scandinavian Colonization Company of Canada Limited organized last Thursday evening at the Southern Minnesota Valley Land Company office in Willmar. Capital stock to be 840 000 with 27 000 acres in Assiniboia near Dunburn along the Canadian Pacific line between Regina and Prince Albert.

Drayman Injured by Horse Kick at Gilbertson Barn

Ole Sundquint, a dray line worker for Gilbertson Bros., was kicked in the barn last Saturday. While stooping in a stall he was struck above the right ear, knocking him unconscious and forcing a layoff from work. He had entered the barn to attend to horses when the accident occurred.

Norway letter recalls Kandiyohi gift for seed grain drive

Senator L. O. Thorpe received a Norwegian bishop's letter thanking Kandiyohi county donors for 3,255 kronor. Distributions will aid Amterne counties and Tromsö, used mainly for seed grain purchases. An additional remittance of about 18,520 kronor is expected soon, with Thorpe as chair of the state committee. The note praises local generosity and outlines management by county officials and the bishop in Tromsö.

Great Northern rate order to cut lumber coal charges

The State Railroad and Warehouse Commission ruled Henry Klauser of Litchfield’s complaint against Great Northern Railway Co justified. It ordered rates reduced to 9 cents per hundred for lumber 81 50 per ton for hard coal from Duluth to Litchfield and 6 cents per hundred and 81 00 per ton from Twin Cities to Litchfield with 20 days to file an answer. The railroad contests the ruling citing jurisdiction and ongoing hearings. The case affects towns along the Great Northern line and will be watched closely.

Railroad extension moves forward to Willmar area

Thorpe Minnesota March 2 increase in railroad prospects as a committee returns from St Paul to present the matter to Mr Hill who plans on visiting the ground and evaluating the route. The line is expected to run west from Hutchinson about 25 miles then southwest crossing the C M St P at Bir i Island or Olivia with further plans to reach the area near Horace.

The new long eighty foot coaches with seating for eighty five draw Wilmar travelers and local business men toward flying trips east to St Paul. The Puget Sound express attracted large crowds on its first run last Sunday night as Willmar sent a broad delegation to the depot and witnessed the arrival of the new division train .

Rail accident verdict cites defective engine at St Paul yards

City fines paid after jail release in early morning arrests

Victor Nelson Bud Miller Lore Larson and Ole Nelson were arrested for city ordinance violations after being released from county jail. They pled guilty before Justice Cramer and paid 50 dollars each, adding two hundred dollars to the city treasury. Additional fines were 100 to B F Miller 50 to Walter Nelson 75 to Paul Lindberg and 100 to Victor Nelson totaling 325. Cole Nyberg and Smith of New London were released yesterday.

Old Offenders in Trouble in Benson Avenue Case

Ben Waterman known as the king of blind pigs and Charles Hilson are charged with illegal liquor sales to August Mattson of Fahlun. Mattson, arrested for drunkenness, testified that linked them to the case. Bail set at 150 dollars each, further adjournments ordered, and Mattson jailed for contempt before Deputy Nordstrom brought him in.

Laborer Loses Hand In Coal Car Accident

Soren Larson a Great Northern laborer was crushed when a coal car rolled over his right hand, requiring amputation below the wrist. He was taken home to the Fourth Ward, where Dr. Mac Laughlin performed the operation. Larson is married with children dependent on him. Also noted, No. 11, a day passenger train, derailed after rails spread in the yards near Seventh Street. no injuries or delays occurred as repairs followed quickly.
