Home Talent Play Down in Dixie in Willmar

Preparations for the home talent drama Down in Dixie progress well and by March 17 Willmar audiences will see a Civil War era production in four acts. Cast includes Harvey Wells a Federal Army colonel Joseph J Lonien George Washington Bangs a Herald reporter Russell Curran and Major Bradley of the Confederate forces.

Local play features and farm loan meeting announced

The program lists characters including Holligan true blue vet and Mary Tew while noting the show will run twice at 3 PM and in the evening with a local orchestra. Admission prices are 35 50 and 75 cents and tickets go on sale next week. Also Kanidyohi County National Farm Loan Association directors meet in Willmar on Monday March 8 at 1040 AM to vote on loan applications and membership. WM Olson secretary treasurer.

Bertha Neslund of Slagter Iowa purchased Richard Julius’s residence at 719 Fourth Street West for 6500 dollars and will reside with her children Mildred Neslund and C O Neslund and Eloise Brown. J G Griggs sold Annex confectionery to Arthur Hookom of Spicer. Griggs will run a pool room in the Merchants building. John F Kray of Clara City died at 43 years while working as a jeweler. Henry Moe received the first state bonus of 285 dollars. H O Mathie and family moved from Stanhope Iowa. L L Barber farm remains in Iowa. Jacob Bouska, formerly of Edwards, now heads Branton chicken ranch in Olivia. Richard Julius and family relocate to Fairfax after selling their city house to Bertha Neslund.

Near East Relief Drive asked in Willmar county

In a letter to the editor F H Oehler county director urges a city and county canvass for Near East relief delayed by influenza. He lists ward chairmen Emma Johnson, Mrs George Thomas, Mrs William Hengstler, Victor Lawson and the treasurer Miss Lillie Noren. Funds aim to aid 800,000 destitute in Trans Caucasian district and Cilicia. Willmar quota is 1,000 and county 5,700 with pledges paid within 30 days.

Willmar Barbers Organize 6 P. M. Closing Tightens Shops

Willmar barbers organized Journeymen Barber's International Union of America No. 878 with ten members. W. C. Wilson elected president and the group sets meetings for the first Monday monthly. Shops will open 7:20 a.m. and close 6 p.m. except Saturdays, effective March 8.

Rev Philip Broburg appointed Provost of Swedish work

Rev Philip Broburg formerly of New London now rector of St Sigfrid's Church in St Paul has been named Provost of the Swedish work of the Episcopal church in the Northwest. The appointment comes from the church wide campaign and will involve missionary duties and recruiting for the ministry. Bethel Young Ladies Society renames itself Pidelis to reflect its faithfulness. A concert is planned likely for April 25 by Esther Pearson of Chicago, sister to Rev W E Pearson former Bethel pastor. The society will meet next Monday evening hosted by Verna Wahlstrand and Pearl Brown. Arrivals include Mr and Mrs J E Leslie of Peever S Dak from Kansas. Mrs Chapin is a daughter of the Lindseys. Henry Moe returns from the Twin Cities after a short visit.

Willmar resident BE Anderson purchased the Waverly Hotel at Waverly from J O Nyberg, along with the hotel residence. The Anderssons left Monday for their new business location, having sold his Becker Avenue West farm last fall for 18,250 dollars, comprising acres.

Altrurians to Perform Musical Program Thursday Evening

The third division of the Altrurians of the Presbyterian church will present a musical program Thursday evening at the church. Admission is 15 cents. The lineup includes organ and piano solos, vocal duets, glee club numbers, cello and flute solos, recitations, and various solos by local artists.

Mission Church Bazaar Aims For Town Bazaar Saturday

The Willing Workers of the Swedish Mie church plan a bazaar at the Temples Thursday afternoon and evening. Afternoon offerings include sandwiches pickles cake and coffee for 15 cents. A 5 o’clock supper costs 25 cents with baked ham scalloped potatoes and coffee. Fancy and inserted articles will be displayed all day. About 35 members of The Ancient Order of United Workmen No 62 Willmar held an initiation last Thursday night with a banquet served at 6 30 p m. about eighty men attended.
