Rural Areas Organize Lake Andrew Dovre Telephone Line

Farmers across Lake Andrew and Dovre townships formed the Lake Andrew and Dovre Telephone Line with K T Rykken as president and plans to string about 30 wires from New London to Norway Lake and a branch to the Jackson farm. A second note reports J Anderson Brow left Willmar to join a new location, and a library benefit raised funds for new books while services and meetings continued in Willmar including a play and various civic events.

Bishop Visits Parish for St Luke's Rectorate and Confirmation

In Willmar the bishop Samuel Cook Edsall presided at St Luke's Church services marking the installation of Rev Horatio Gates as rector and the confirmation of ten youths. The event included a sermon praising church improvements and a reception for attendees. Lillian Lake guests hosted by Mr and Mrs P Blomgren received greetings and gifts amid speeches and music.

Kandiyohi County Women’s Institute Meeting Recap

The Kandiyohi County Women’s Institute held a Saturday meeting at Odd Fellows Hall with about twenty five members present. President Mrs Knox was absent and Mrs E M Stanford presided assisted by Mrs Andrew Larson and others as program committee. Members discussed topics from a booklet on bread making and ways to engage members, with Miss Blanche Maddock the state organizer planning a March visit to Willmar.

Death of Victor Nelson in Willmar area

Victor Nelson aged 34 died Sunday at 8 10 am after a two year battle with consumption. He returned from Las Vegas New Mexico with his wife two weeks ago after trying the climate there. The family previously lived in Denver Cass Lake and Willmar. Funeral services were held at 12 30 at the Swedish Lutheran residence with Rev. Peterson officiating. Burial was at Tripolis cemetery Kandiyob. Survived by widow three children parents two brothers and four sisters with out of town relatives in attendance.

The New Bakery Opens in Ruble Building

Sandven, formerly of Minneapolis, opens a bakery in the Ruble building on Litchfield avenue opposite the electric light plant. The New Bakery reports good business and plans to add equipment and staff as it grows. Sandven is A. O. Sandven’s brother of Golden Rule fame and once worked at Johnson bakery. The North ern Minnesota Teachers Association convention will be at the Normal School building in St. Cloud on March 25. A birth is noted in the Schwartz family with a son born to Mr. and Mrs. Christ Birkeland on the 17th ult., and expected attendees include several from this county.

Great Northern Time Card Changes Announced

The new time card effective Sunday alters Great Northern train arrivals and departures. The Muget Sound Express now arrives 30 minutes earlier at 8:30. Winnipeg night passenger arrives 15 minutes earlier than before at 11:50. No 10 arrives 35 minutes earlier at 4:00. No 42 from Bronx City now ertainly 3:60. Sioux City night passenger arrives 11:40. B Berkness becomes Willmar Milling Co stockholder alongside T C Kland, who leaves for Wittenberg.

Willmar Delegation Helps Luther Conference at Appleton

A synod conference of Willmar and Kandiyohi county clergymen met in Appleton with a Central Minnesota Luther College Club gathering. A banquet at St James Hotel honored visitors, and officers of the College Club were re elected Rev Jordahl president and Rev Heimdahl secretary. The club aids Luther College Decorah and Willmar plans for next year’s ministerial meeting.

Death of Lewis T. Nelson at Whatcom Washington

Lewis T Nelson died in Whatcom Washington February 10 from injuries at a saw mill. The brother Ole T Nelson recalls details in a letter dated February 25. Nelson was 20 years 7 months and 6 days old, survived by parents and several siblings. Funeral held February 21 in Lutheran church with Norwegian services and hymn by church choir. He had worked for the cam mill company since June and was a teacher of the Sunday School. He was born in St Johns and spent years in Willmar before moving to Washington. He was well liked and mourned by many friends.
