Messiah Concert Delights Willmar Choral Society

The Willmar Choral Society under David Nyvall Jr. delivered a moving Messiah at High School Auditorium with eight choruses, soloists Agnes East Snyder Clara Williams George Krieger Harry Phillips and Miss Nell Robbins. The audience praised the performance as outstanding, with strong enunciation and harmony, while tickets sold out and a postconcert lunch followed. A meeting of the Women's Athletic Club was postponed to Friday due to a scheduling clash with the Parent Teachers Association.

The Ladies Aid Society of the Swedish Methodist church will meet next Thursday March 9 at 2 20 p m in the church. Lunch will be served by the Society. Everyone is invited to attend.

Evening Classes At Willmar High School

Evening classes are held Mondays and Thursdays from seven to nine at Willmar High School. Instructors include Supt. Geo Brohaugh and Prof. Harry Wahlstrand. Courses cover citizenship, penmanship, English and spelling. Eleven students have enrolled and the program aids citizens in the district court term opening March 20. Melvin Root underwent an operation for adhesion at Willmar Hospital and is recovering well.

Inspector Brownell Tests Willmar Water Quality

O H Brownell of the Minnesota State Board of Health and the Federal Government inspected Willmar's water on Tuesday testing supply quality. He noted Willmar water has previously been very good and expected no change this year. An analysis will be filed with the city clerk and a report sent to Spicer and Morris trips noted as part of annual tours to about 100 Minnesota towns.

Majestic Sold to Franklin Co in Minneapolis deal

The Franklin Amusement Company of Minneapolis, owner of the Dreamland Theatre, bought the Majestic Theatre and its business from J. P. Crisp. The transfer surprised many as Crisp had recently named Mark Carey Majestic manager before leaving for North Dakota. The Majestic will close temporarily and reopen Saturdays. Dreamland will host regular performances, and Carey becomes Dreamland manager. BONDS ON PAR The city banks announce Victory Bonds are redeemable at par with 4 1/2 to 4 3/4 percent interest. Liberty Bonds quote near 97 with some as low as 83 on the market. The January 1921 slump in Government Bonds is noted. Mr and Mrs Erick Erickson of Colfax visited the city before returning home.

Derailment near railroad yards narrowly avoids tragedy

A four coach derailment near the roal chute at No 21 yards after a switch snap sent passenger cars off track. A passing switch engine and box cars on an adjacent track prevented a topple over, saving lives. passengers and belongings scattered but no serious injuries reported. Swedish Literary Society Postpones March Meeting

The March meeting of the Swedish Literary Society is postponed from Friday evening this week to Friday evening March 17. A good program has been arranged. Other programs on the same evening call the postponement.

Jens Jenson suffered a rupture on the left side after a fall the other day. The injury is not serious and does not require an operation.

Willmar Choral Society Meeting and Court Juries

A willmar business meeting of the Willmar Choral Society and associate members is set for Friday night at 7 in the Junior High School Auditorium. The March term juries were drawn by local officials, with 30 petit and 23 grand jurors listed for the term starting March 20. Citizens allied with progressive forces and organized labor plan a Friday evening conference at the courthouse hall on March 8 regarding the city election. Mrs. Q A Melby of Spicer arrived in the city to visit at C J Birkeland's home for a week.

Willmar Girl Weds Mankato Man in Presbyterian Ceremony

Miss Florence Peterson daughter of Mr and Mrs John A Peterson of 226 East Litchfield Avenue married R W Wigley son of Mr and Mrs Richard Wigley of Mankato at the Presbyterian parsonage. Rev J Renwick McCullough officiated. Bridesmaid Lacey Peterson. best man Roy W Anderson. After a wedding trip to the cities the couple will live in Judson Minnesota. Wigley is cashier of Farmers State Bank at Judson. Telephone lines in parts of Willmar were impaired by a heavy snowstorm last week. other areas reported no trouble.

Mrs Eastman Sets Out for Kingsburg California

Mrs Annette Eastman left the city Friday morning for Kingsburg California to visit relatives and friends for a time before returning. The community wishes her a good trip and a pleasant visit.

Will Open New Clothing Store in Willmar

Walter and Roy Erickson, Willmar youths, plan a clothing store in the C. Olson building on Litehfield avenue, opening in early April. Roy has worked with Weam-Elkjer Co, Walter recently left their Alexandria operation. They rented 95 feet of frontage with storage on the second floor and basement. The community offers well wishes for the venture. State Road 6 and 8 Improvement Bid Awards

Board of County Commissioners awarded contracts after about twenty bids for road work on State Road No. 6 in this county and No. 8 in Pope county. Double Header Strikes Snowplow Disaster At Willmar

The wreck killed two Willmar men and a third from Minneapolis or St. Paul after Train No 10 crashed into a snow plow near Delano. Engineers Hollis McDonald and R E McCabe faced fatal injuries while Norman McLeod and George Pelton survived with severe wounds. The crash occurred as No 10 tried to make up time on the Western route, with more than 400 passengers affected and crews scrambling to warn oncoming trains.
