Social notes highlight Willmar area visits and travels

A string of visitors and departures threads through Willmar and nearby towns. Miss Sadie Barrett stays in DeGraff with relatives while Miss Alice Englund returns from Hartley for the summer. Many residents travel to Spicer, Minneapolis, Kandiyohi, and Madison for visits or longer stays, including Julius Hoglund, Miss Marion Lewis, Miss Julia Peterson, and Earl Collier. Several families host guests from Roseville, Hartley, Menomonie, and Pembina, with trips to Breckenridge, Fergus Falls, and Milbank noted.

The spring term of the district court met Monday and Tuesday with multiple dispositions. Appeals by Toensing proceed to July 6. City of Willmar cases set for out of term trial. London Milling case dismissed by plaintiff. Fourth Railroad addition vacation set for July 6. Porter ditch liability case set for July 27. Tierney vs Defoe over digging a well ruled for defendant. Thorson vs New London Mining verdict for plaintiff. City of Willmar vs Olson pigging case dismissed after costs of 19.89 paid by defendant.

Indian Scholars Journey Through Willmar on Way Home

Forty seven Chippewas and children from Pipestone industrial schools traveled through Willmar en route to White Earth Turtle Mountain reserves. They spoke many languages and planned vacation activities, with many not returning next year due to a new rule restricting travel from reservations to those under 14. Mrs Hackett and relatives, plus Miss Carruthers, undertaken a six week trip to Spokane Seattle and Missoula. Miss Cora Johnson returned to Minneapolis after visiting and planning to reside there. she is sister to Mrs Hedin.

Chautauqua Opens Saturday at Green Lake Festivities Begin

The third season of the Green Lake Chautauqua opens next Saturday with no admission charged for afternoon and evening programs at the pavilion. A Independence Day celebration includes two ball games at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., music by the Ladies' Symphony Orchestra and Spicer Band, and a grand fireworks display. The rest of the schedule features Dr. Batten lectures, various musical programs, readings, and notable speakers such as Gov. John A. Johnson and Ex-Gov. Joseph Folk, with recreation and lake activities available throughout the event.

Bowman to entertain at Chautauqua Green Lake

Robert O. Bowman the noted impersonator is scheduled for Chautauqua programs in Green Lake on Monday and Tuesday evenings July 5 and 6. He is praised for his mastery of accents and ability to both amuse and uplift audiences. Also listed are naturalization notices for Isaac De Visher Sr. and others and local social notices about Elkjer's Studio portraits and a derailment accident near Tioga, N D with injuries.

Deserted Wife Takes Own Life in Philadelphia

Tuesday of last week Mrs. Henson, wife of Paul Benson of Minneapolis, killed herself in Philadelphia after learning her husband had left her. In a letter she said she could not live without him. Paul Benson, a clerk at G. O. Sand Clothing Store last summer, is a nephew of Mr. Sand.

New Education Law Is Strict in Attendance Rules

County Superintendent reports a new compulsory education law requiring all children aged eight to sixteen to attend school for the full term. Only four excuses allowed, with lists of attendees issued by clerks, teachers, and superintendents. Nonattendance may lead to $50 fines or 30 days in jail for parents, with funds returning to the district. Also notes local church event at Solomon Lake with gifts and a move of the Miller family to Willmar for a steadier line.
