Stavanger Amt Laget convenes in Willmar for Norse meet

Willmar hosts the Stavanger Amt Laget of America for its 1922 reunion with hundreds already in town. About 2000 visitors expected over two days, from Oregon to the Dakotas, registering at the Masonic Temple and Fair Grounds Auditorium. The program includes a grand march, banners from Stavanger parishes, and multiple meetings and addresses led by local officials.

Fourth of July at Diamond Lake Resort

Manager Hellstrom invites the public to Diamond Lake Resort for July Fourth events. A forenoon concert, dancing from 3 to 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and an 8:30 p.m. Martin’s firework display are planned. Athletic events, a ball ground, a gasoline station, and free bath houses are available. The grounds host the ex-service men’s picnic on Sunday July 9.

Kerkhoven ball team travels to Kandiyohi on their grounds next Sunday afternoon at three oclock for a promised good game with local fans eager to see a tight contest.

Silver Wedding Day of Mr and Mrs Bergquist

A large crowd celebrated the twenty fifth wedding anniversary of C O Bergquist and wife at their Willmar area farm home. Guests arrived by car from Willmar and nearby crossings, with chairs set on the lawn. Atty Charles Johnson spoke, Mayor Lawson and Rev Hjalmar Tillman offered remarks, and a silverware gift was presented. Refreshments followed as social time ended the event. The piece also notes the Swedish Baptist church annual Fourth of July picnic at Hagle Lake north shore Levander's pasture with church members gathering at 9 am and bringing dinner. coffee and ice cream served.

Attending Municipal Convention and Local Socials

Mayor V. KE, Lawcon and City Clerk Hans Gunderson left Tuesday for Crookston to attend the League of Minnesota Municipalities convention and will return Friday. The Svea Lutheran church Young Peoples Society hosts an ice cream social and concert Friday night June 23 with Skoglund orchestra. Rev Jesper Holmoulst of Willmar to speak at the Minnesota Luther League convention June 29 to July 2 in Center City. Prof. B. P. Farness spoke at the Lake Lillian Ladies Aid meeting Tuesday.

Holstein Association Picnic Set for June 29

Kandiyohi County Holstein Breeders Association will hold its annual picnic on Thursday June 29 at the Robert Thompson place on Willmar Route Five. The group numbers about forty members with hundreds expected to attend. L A Wilcox Livestock Specialist from the University Farm is the principal speaker. Home Economics may send additional talent. Attendees should bring lunches and stay for the day. Ice cream and coffee will be served free on the grounds.

Feleen Nygaard Wedding Reported In Atwater Area

Emil N. Feleen of this city married Gunhild Nygaard of Atwater in a wedding not previously reported. The bride, formerly stenographer at Chas A. Swenson law office in Atwater, will reside in this city with the groom. Feleen works as contract letting agent for Willmar Construction Company.

Willmar Bond Issue Wins Easily for City Light Plant

The city of Willmar won by a wide margin in a primary vote on issuing 80000 in bonds to extend enlarge and improve the Municipal Light Plant. The total in favor reached 871 to 251 with the Second Ward showing the largest approval at 198 votes. Precinct results varied by ward and precinct.

Legion elects eight convention delegates at Eagle Lake meeting

At the last monthly American Legion meeting held at the Brogren cottage on Eagle Lake delegates and alternates were elected for the district convention at Ortonville and the state convention at Virginia. Delegates to the district convention July 24 at Ortonville include Herbert Wadell, Herbert Hengstler, Dr. A F Branton, Arthur Carlson, with alternates Einar Brogren, Fritz Blomquist, Austin Sundberg and Emil Aspaas. Delegates to the state convention at Virginia include Wadell, Blomquist, and others named in the report, with Moe, Jogren and Russell among alternates.

Meeker County Team to Meet Litchfield in Willmar Clash

A real ball game is planned for next Sunday afternoon at the usual grounds. Meeker County will host old rivals Litchfield in action against Willmar. Last year the Litchfield battles were the most exciting, and last Sunday Litchfield beat Foley 12 to 2. Foley had class against Glenwood recently. The Meeker County boys look likely to join Willmar's baseball class and promise strong opposition.

Willmar District Sunday School Convention Held in July

The Willmar Swedish Mission district will host its annual Sunday Schools convention at the Mission church in Willmar on July 7 to 9. Hundreds attend as Hildar Hoaglund opens with a sermon by Rev. C. G. Strom. Lectures by P. G. Swanson and Rev. Thure Swanson precede afternoon business Saturday. Sunday features a new Sunday School system demonstration and sermons by S. H. Roslin and C. G. Strom amid a Park Auditorium service if weather allows. A special Great Northern train carried railroad officials from Minneapolis en route to Yankton for a potential line connection, with W. E. B. Tew in charge.

Kandiyohi primaries show tight county politics

Kandiyohi County primaries yield light turnout with 3827 votes for Register of Deeds among three candidates and 3817 for County Attorney. Charles Johnson leads Deeds race, August Lundquist tops Otto Trulson, both carry Willmar. Johnson wins most Willmar villages except Atwater. Lundquist contests with Trulson for key county posts. Ernest Lundeen favored in Senate race. Democratic vote around 300. Next general includes Lundquist vs Trulson for Register of Deeds, Johnson vs Swenson for County Attorney, with Reigstad and Skinderen in Fourth District. Donelson and Johsson in Fourth District.

Old Settlers Meet at Sibley Park (Kandiyohi County)

The Kandiyohi County Old Settlers Association held its 192% reunion at Sibley Park Cedar Hill with a large turnout and a picnic atmosphere. Officers were elected with P H Frye as president and J M Spicer as 1st vice president, A Geer as 2nd vice president, Aug O Forsberg as secretary, and C W Odell as treasurer. The 1923 reunion site was set for Kandiyohi Beach on Kandiyohi Lake, and notable speakers included Ole O Sageng and Senator Olof Gjerset. A New London-Kandiyohi ball game ended 12 to 3 in Kandiyohi’s favor.
