Old Settlers Reunion at Atwater a Splendid Success

The Kan diyohi County Old Settlers Association held a packed and festive reunion in Atwater on June 15, 1909. Attendance broke records, with a special train carrying 55 from New London and about 30 from Spicer. Officers elected were Martin Olson president, George Johnson first vice, William Olson second vice, A. Q. Forsberg secretary, and A. N. Lewis treasurer. A resolve to locate and mark graves of Lorentson and Backlund passed, and a large dinner followed a robust program. Senator Canfield delivered a strong afternoon address, praising pioneers and warning of wealth concentration and extremism while urging education and middle-class cooperation as safeguards for the nation.

Willmar High Alumni Banquet Draws 80 Grads

Willmar High School Alumni Banquet drew about 80 graduates last Friday evening, the best attended in the association. Toastmaster Stan ford, and speakers John Styles Victor Knutson and Marguerite Young delivered well received toasts. Styles spoke on The Banquet, Knutson on Undercurrents, Young delivered witty hits. Wallace Martin contributed Side Lights on University life. Music included Frank C. Palm piano, Helen Sather vocal with Edgar Sather violin. Postmaster Croaby in St Paul for postmasters meeting.

Annual Meeting of Free Church Elects Gynild President

Rev. E. E. Gynild was elected president of the Lutheran Free church at the Montevideo annual meeting for the third time. Rev. M. B. Michaelson was named on the Augsburg Seminary board. The conference plans a $100,000 endowment for Augsburg with only interest to be used. Bethesda Home at Eagle Lake reported 43 stored and three aged residents, with all expenses paid and $2,600 toward debts. Free Church Book Concern receipts neared $26,000 with a $2,000 surplus.
