Hog Breeders Meet in Willmar Northwest

The Minnesota Hog Breeders Association holds a two day meeting in Willmar with sessions at the courthouse at 1 30 p m and a banquet at I C O F hall hosted by the Willmar Commercial Club. Program covers hog cholera, serum treatment, vaccinations, hog judging, and practical hog houses. A civil service exam for Willmar post office clerk and carrier is also announced for June 27.

Roseland residents share a week of visits and family gatherings with Mrs. Joe Skalak hosting Mrs. August Biltue last Thursday. The Andersons and Carl Anderson attended Willmar Seminary graduation. Mabel and Alice Gibson plan to return home from visits at Vasa and nearby places. Esther Engvall spent the past week with her sister Mrs Peterson of Whitefield. Lillian Strafelda visited her cousin in Renville last week. Judith Anderson visited relatives Rey and Mrs Carson in town. Joe Strafelda and family spent last Thursday and Friday with relatives in Lake Lillian.

Svea church events and funerals in the week

Svea announces services by Rev. Peterson at 3 p m Sunday. Mrs Nela Anderson hosts the Ladies Aid Thursday. Parochial school reopened after a week’s closure. Two church funerals last week: Skoghind on Friday and August Skoog on Saturday. Mrs C Christianson hosts Ladies Aid Friday. Young People’s Society meets Friday the 19th. Mr and Mrs Fred Lindquist visit Henry Bjelkengren Sunday afternoon.

Two June Weddings Highlight Willmar News

At the Grue home on East Litchfield Ave last Thursday evening the marriage of Mise Marie Grue to A W Hanson of Peever South Dakota was performed by Rev RE Larson. Attendants included Alma Grue and J O Johnson with Ethel Going at the piano. A four course dinner followed and out of town guests included the Hansons and Hattie Johnson of Peever. The couple will live in Peever after June 15. Also Hoglund Soderling wedding at a quiet Campbell Ave home with Rev Ostling officiating. The couple is the son of Mr and Mrs Hoglund and the daughter of Mr and Mrs Soderling of Willmar, with a large circle of friends. The marriages are followed by licenses listed for early June. The Kandiyohi Silo Company reports new silos on several farms. Local notes from Lake Elizabeth include social visits, upcoming church services, and plans for Summer Festivals and a Saturday gathering.

Acceptance of Memorial Portrait of Judge Powers

Willmar Minnesota June 9 1914 Judge Powers sent a portrait to be accepted and hung in the courtroom. On May 23 the bar and county officers gathered as a committee led by Geo H Otterness George Muller and H J Ramsett prepared a fitting acknowledgment. The resolution expresses high esteem for Judge Powers and requests the portrait be placed in the court room as a lasting memento of his service to Kandiyohi County. Signed by county officials and bar members including Muller Swenson Stanford Gilbert Johnson Ronken Otterness Ramsett and others.

Willmar Seminary Commencement and Alumni Banquet

The thirty second commencement at the Willmar Seminary was held despite rain. Diplomas were presented by Prof. A. C. Pederson as Rev. W. E. Pearson spoke on religion and education. Alumni gathered for a four course banquet hosted by juniors. officers and speakers addressed “Willmar Seminary” and “Possibilities.”

Kerkhoven Here This Week Local Team Returns to Play

After a week off due to Morris team issues the Willmar club resumes play at the local ball yard June 14 at 3 PM. A scheduled June 14 foe changed from Sorenson Shoe of St Paul to Kerkhoven. Ronning of Spicer to pitch. First appearance of four Willmar players home from school marks strong form. admission 25 cents, no grandstand charge.

Movement Toward Public Restroom In Town

A new effort to establish a permanent public restroom for visitors and locals was launched with committees from the Automobile Club and Commercial Club. Auto Club appointed KC Wellin, Lewis Johnson and Hugh Ruddy. Commercial Club named Y B Lawson, J B Boyd and Dr. Coleman. A joint meeting will be held to consider the proposal.

Reverend Gade Receives Doctor of Divinity at Highland College

Amusements Listed For Local Week Between Kerkhoven and Willmar
