Gopher State Boys Off to Dixie Land

Kandiyohi County sends sixty nine men to Camp Wadsworth South Carolina for training. Local crowds bid farewell with ceremonies at the court grounds and Merchants Hotel. Leaders include Herbert Hengst Jer and C B Melbye as lieutenants. badges and Red Cross comforts distributed. contingents from Swift Stevens Mille Lacs Isanti counties join the voyage through St Paul and Eau Claire en route to duty.

Park Pavilion Opens To Large City Crowd

The new park pavilion on the south side drew a large citywide crowd Monday. Harstad's Juvenile Band performed and the Home Guard drilled under Engineer J A Myron. Net receipts of 132.50 from refreshments will fund improvements, with Mayor Wellin adding 25. The pavilion, presented by Gov A E Rice, is open for all social gatherings and custodian Andrew O Sather invites usage inquiries.

Eastbound troop train brings drafted men to Willmar

A four hundred strong troop train from the east passed Willmar this afternoon en route to the Pacific coast. Aides of the Pullmans displayed autographs from Pennsylvanians New Yorkers West Virginians Ohioans and others. The cosmopolitan group included both city residents and mountain folk and they were a cheerful lot glad for their Westward chance as the Willmar canteen committee provided a treat.

Confirmation Class Receives Rites At Lutheran Free Church

The 1918 Confirmation Class at the Norwegian Lutheran Free church received confirmation and graduation certificates during morning services at 10 30 Rev N Nilsen led the English service for thirteen members and the Norwegian for seven graduates The list includes Nora Christine Strand Mabel Hanson Gladys Pederson and others with Haroun Ness and Harry Hamann among the members

Judge O Gilbert Elected President of Grand Lodge of Sons of Norway

Judge O Gilbert of this city was elected president of the Grand Lodge of the Sons of Norway at the annual meeting in Great Falls Montana on July 17 19 The national organization for Americans of Norwegian birth and descent celebrated the honor and the group also funded an ambulance for the Red Cross at 10000 and invested 30000 in Liberty Bonds while showing strong American spirit

Kandiyohi County Recruits Leave for Camp Wadsworth

Sixty nine men from Kandiyohi County departed for Camp Wadsworth in South Carolina on Friday. The group includes Peter Panagieekanied and a list of names such as Fred Gesche, Herbert Wadell, Theo Nelson, and Gustaf Nordstrom among others. Induction noted at Cicero, Iverson.

Red Cross volunteers seek fifty or more men and boys to report Friday at 7 30 PM. Oakum picking aids surgical bandage preparation and can be done by men and boys. The call urges participation at headquarters to help with this work.

Rev and Mrs EB KE Gynild were surprised by friends from Willmar Green Lake and Eagle Lake churches on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Afternoon visits included songs speeches and a memory recital. purses from Willmar exceeded 58 dollars and the later delegations contributed over 70 dollars each. An auspicious celebration recalling their July 26 1893 Minneapolis marriage.

Obituary notices for Mrs Inger Paulson and Fred C Holt

Two obituaries from Minneapolis area papers detail the death of Mrs Inger Paulson wife of Ole Paulson and a Willmar native. They note decades of service in the Lutheran Free church and ministerial family ties, with funeral readings by Rev Nicolay Nilsen and pallbearers including local officials. Also reported is the unexpected death of Fred C Holt aged 21, a former Willmar grocer aide, who died at the parental home after pneumonia. Business Man of Pennock Passes

Ludvig Magnus Steberg a prominent county businessman died last Thursday at Willmar Hospital after complications from mastoid removal. Born May 9 1871 in Arctander he worked in North Dakota then returned to Pennock to operate Berglund store and later Jacobson business. Survived by wife Alma Nelson and brother Selmer, funeral held at Pennock with Masonic and community attendance.
