Willmar Man Named District Draft Tribunal Physician

Dr. B J Branton of Willmar is appointed by President Wilson as physician for the Second District Minneapolis Federal judicial draft tribunal. The four Minnesota districts form a five member board per district with labor, employer, worker, physician and lawyer reps. Branton joins J E O'Brien from Minneapolis and others, to oversee exemptions and appeals with district tribunals organizing in Minneapolis.

A hot school meeting produced 125 ballots with C F Olson elected to a one year term and S B Qvale G H Otterness elected for three year terms. C H Lunstead elected for two year post. Mangan Found Not Guilty By Jury In Assault Case

The State of Minnesota v Thomas Mangan on charges of assault in the third degree concluded with a jury verdict of not guilty after a daylong trial. James Hale, conductor on the Great Northern, testified about the May 27 incident on the train. The jury, impaneled from local citizens, deliberated briefly before delivering the verdict.

Prominent Farmer and Auctioneer Injured in Train Collision

John S. Anderson of Atwater narrowly escaped serious harm when his eastbound local train struck his large Mitchell car near the mill crossing. The front coupler pierced the door and trapped his left leg, breaking bones above the ankle. the car derailed over 200 feet, and Anderson was carried to a hospital by train with Dr Porter Atwater.

Coal Heaver Fined After Lake Wasoucal Incident

Olof Nelson, coal loader at the local railroad yards, was tried in Municipal Court for Friday forenoon and fined thirty dollars or thirty days in the county jail. He, with another man, visited Swan Ekdahl’s place on Lake Wasoual’s north shore, became intoxicated, quarreled with Ekdahl, assaulted him, and allegedly stole a watch and silver. Nelson remained in custody as the fine was paid, serving the jail term.

Reverend T D Tolo Accepts Call to Locust Iowa

Rev. T D Tolo, who has served Crow River and Crow Lake Congregations for eighteen years, was in the city last Thursday en route from Locust Iowa where summoned by a parishioner’s death. He and his family have visited in Crow River and Crow Lake after a stint at Hamline Minnesota. Mrs. Tolo is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M C Thorpe of this city.
