Willmar Area Social Notes Abound With Visits

A long list of visitors and guests fills Willmar and nearby towns as residents host relatives from Glenwood New London Breckenridge and other places. Many travel to Minneapolis St Paul Fargo and Duluth. several attend Sangerfest and Chautauqua while others plan short trips to Twin Cities and Estevan.

Farmers Organize Willmar Elevator Company

About 40 Kandiyohi county farmers met at the courthouse and formed the Willmar Farmers Union Elevator company with 15000 capital and around 80 stockholders. Officers elected were P. H. Frye president A. J. Abbott vice president G. A. Backlund secretary and A. O. Nelson treasurer. Directors include K. O. Axness. The firm bought the old Farmers elevator and will begin operations after harvest. The constitution allows handling of farm produce wood coal and lumber. County officials enjoyed an outing at Eagle Lake hosted by Sen ior L. O. Thorpe with swimming and meals, showcasing their cooking talents.

Housekeepers Picnic Outing Planned At Frosts Grove

The Housekeepers Club announces its annual outing for Saturday afternoon July 23 on the hill in Frosts Grove near the Chautauqua grounds. A picnic supper follows the afternoon program. Members and families supply their own lunches, coffee provided by the club.

Sangerfest a Great Success in Willmar Concert

Norwegain Danish Singers of the Northwest delighted Willmar with a large choir of about ninety voices. The program featured Olaf Tryvason, The Great White Throng, and Griegs Land sighting, with soloists Paulay Anderson and Elizabeth Middelthon. A piano suite by Grieg and popular music by Spicer orchestra complemented the evening amid a festive reception and civic praise.

Summer School Picnic at Synod Church

The parochial summer school held closing day festivities led by color bearers Emery Rannestad and Walter Anderson as children marched to Frost Grove for a hearty dinner and lemon ade. Prizes were awarded to Harald Bonde, June Gilger, Orton Sandbo, Emery Rannestad, and Anna Overgaard with grand prizes to Harold Bonde and June Gilger. Reverend J N Anderson and Miss Marie Berg aided the event while Mrs F W Minton and Miss Marion Minton were weekend guests at Eagle Lake.

Swedish Day Draws Large Willmar Park Crowd

Next Friday Swedish Day will be held at the Willmar Park Assembly. The busy season will not deter a large crowd from enjoying the program. Reports from country districts indicate exceptional interest, and Dr Waldenstrom’s lecture will be his only west of Minneapolis on this farewell trip to America.

Swedish Lecture and Concert in Willmar Friday

Dr. Gustav Andreen from Rock Island will lecture Friday afternoon in Swedish on The People of the North as Pioneers and Builders and speak in English Friday evening on the same topic. The Northwestern Orchestra of Sioux Falls and the Arps Quartet will perform Swedish music for all ages, with strong anticipation of enjoyable sessions.

Swedish American inventor of the Monitor feature on the lake

The program at the Assembly grounds includes a realistic display of the Monitor's inventor and the propeller in a lake-front scene. Special trains will run after the evening program to New London and Cokato to accommodate crowds from the north and east, allowing attendees to return home the same evening.

Final Arrangements Made for Willmar Assembly

The executive committee of the Willmar Park Assembly prepared for the event beginning tonight with Gov. Eberhart’s address. Sangerfest organizers requested crowd comforts, including street sprinkling and auto and team routes at the grounds. Sunday admission is free, and Willmar businesses will close Monday for Willmar Day from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. An eating house run by Mr. Parks will serve from lunch to dinner at 85 cents, with Chicago waiters to assist. The Willmar Band, led by Theo Olson, will play daily for an hour. Citizens are urged to support and cooperate to ensure a smooth, hospitable assembly in the city.

Governor Eberhart Speech Rebooked for July 21 at Willmar

Owing to a calendar clash Gov. Eberhart will not address tonight but will deliver a speech at Willmar Park Assembly Thursday night July 21. The Jubilee Singers will present their full concert this evening instead.

Lively School Meeting Draws Strong Attendance and Elections

The annual meeting drew 206 votes, far above the usual twenty, with four candidates vying for two board of education seats. Dr. B. J. Branton and J. F. Millard won three year terms. C. G. Selvig, former Glencoe Schools head, is praised as an excellent choice for state educator leadership. Mrs. Andrew Larson hosted her niece Henrietta Carroll and Mary from River Falls for a visit, while a new detention hospital at Fergus Falls Insane Hospital is set for occupancy August 1, designed like a general hospital for about 50 patients. The Johnson family joined from Cooperstown to settle near Becker Ave. and 9th St.
