Winnipeg train wreck near Wahpeton rattles passengers
A Winnipeg bound train from Wahpeton No. 10 derailed eight miles beyond Wahpeton after midnight while traveling about forty mph. The sleeper, two refrigerator cars, mail, baggage, smoker, coach and other cars left the track but all passengers escaped with minor injuries except postal clerk William E. Mott who suffered spinal injuries and hip injuries. Most occupants were awakened by the jar and transferred to Wahpeton, then to Minneapolis for treatment. No definite cause given, likely soft road bed combined with high speed. the derailment primarily affected the refrigerator cars. Additional items note St Paul summer carnival plans with parades, exhibits, and excursions.

Local Man Plans Trip to Las Vegas Hot Springs

The Horse Fell on Him Claims Local Settler
Louis Norling, a long time Whitefield resident and county settler, died after a horse fell on him while he freed it from a stall. He fractured his left leg, lapsed into unconsciousness, and died Sunday morning at 4:30. He leaves a widow and seven children, with brothers Olof and Andrew Norling in nearby areas. The funeral was held at his Whitefield home, Rev. Shoberg officiating, burial in Fahum cemetery. Downs Sells Mars Land Reports several land sales near Addlers, Winnipeg HQ. Mrs Frank Deaerstrom Dies at Home Near Kandiyohi
Mrs Frank Deaerstrom died suddenly Monday night at her Kandiyohi area home. While retiring for the night she felt dizzy while crossing the dining room, spoke little, and died about half an hour later from heart failure leading to paralysis. About 40 years old, she leaves a husband and family. funeral was held today with Rev Lindholm officiating.

City Finances Show Tax Receipts For Quarter Ending July
City Treasurer Rameett filed the first quarter report for the fiscal year last week. Receipts for the quarter ending July were 12,174.42 with 8,754.75 from county taxes, 22.62 from justice court fees, and 196.00 from poll tax. July 1 cash balance across funds stood at 7,129.10. County apportionments formed the bulk of yearly taxes, with another apportionment due after fall taxes. Municipal plant collections, not included in the above total, reached 4,556.34 during the period.

Hilson appeals case after liquor sale conviction
