Populist Party of Minnesota Ends Historic Convention

The sixth biennial nominating convention of the Peoples Party of Minnesota draws about 250 delegates from country districts. Delegates adopt a pro independence platform, elect temporary officers, and nominate Thomas J. Meighen for governor and other statewide officers while pledging eight hour workdays and reformist principles.

Minnesota People's Party State Platform 1902

The Minnesota Peoples Party adopts its state platform in a July 2 1902 convention reaffirming support for public ownership of utilities direct legislation and a government issued currency. It calls for anti trust enforcement on monopolies, tariff reform, greenbacks expansion, an income tax amendment and separate state schools from the university system. It favors local option on liquor licenses freight regulation, stronger railroad rate controls and a distinct party organization aligned with Gov John Lind.
