A. O. Bryant, proprietor of the Merchants Hotel, faced a charge and was tried twice as juries failed to reach a verdict. Proceedings highlighted conflict among jurors over key evidence. The court scheduled a recount or possible retrial, pending further deliberations.
After two hung juries the case against A O Bryant for alleged violations of city ordinances against selling intoxicants was dismissed on city attorney Olson’s motion. The trial featured a stenographic report of witness testimony about a pocket flask of whisky exchanged with Bryant at Merchants hotel and a lengthy cross examination by Muller. The proceeding highlighted juror selection by the sheriff and a largely aired dispute over the evidence and conduct surrounding the incident at Green Lake, with Bryant's conduct scrutinized and trial records continued.
The funeral for Matthias T. Sandbo was held Thursday afternoon with services at Campbell avenue residence and at Synod Lutheran church. Rev. H C Buell spoke of his faith and his last illness. pallbearers included Wm T Markhus Ole Rogan C E Gerritson Peter Hong Albert C Johnson and Lewis Moline. Flowers formed an embankment as the casket rested and the 23rd Psalm was read. The remains were interred in the adjoining church yard. The English services drew a large crowd evidencing community esteem for the deceased.
The Lutheran Synod church held its annual meeting with reports of a healthy treasury and progress. A new parsonage is built and a 700 seat church is planned. Rev O E Heimdahl takes July August vacation. Dorothea Bakke and Gustaf A Ericson wed at Feaston on Wednesday evening. Ericson is an Fergus Falls assistant cashier. They plan to live at 214 Vasa scenes east after August 4. Willmar residents Mr and Mrs Claf J Larson of Viking ND visited Mamre and Arctander. crop prospects in their area are good with adequate rainfall.
The mother of P Hallbom of Diamond Lake died suddenly Wednesday evening at about seventy years old. She had heart disease persisted Tuesday and suffered a stroke on Wednesday morning, passing away at 7 pm. Funeral set for today at Tripolis near her former home. The Supreme Court of Minnesota refused Fred Ames a new trial and he began a six and a half year term at Stillwater.
A strange incident at Barnsville Tuly's web left a conductor of Gross Northern injured when a rocket detonation tore off two fingers. The assailant fled as rescue crews tended the victim. Meanwhile Mr and Mrs Peter Berg traveled to Burbank for the funeral of Mrs Cornell Stopherson, sister-in-law to Mr and Mrs Christopherson, who previously lived in Edinburg ND and wished to be laid to rest in her old home at Burbank.
