The South Enders baseball club traveled to Kandiyohi on the Fourth and defeated Kandiyohi 11 to 10 in a tightly contested game. The win adds an exciting note to local baseball lore this Independence Day week in Willmar.

Willmar milling company expands its workforce as Hans O Larson welcomes a boy born Tuesday, and Hans Thestenson greets a son last Sunday. A. A. Anderson couple have a son weighing eight pounds born Friday night. A. C. Freese’s family gains a child after July Fourth celebration at Homewood Park. Emil Lindberg couple welcome twin boys born July 7.
Kandiyohi July 9. Mr and Mrs Henry Stone of Atwater attended the State Bank directors meeting. Mr and Mrs James Peterson of Atwater visited friends here last week. Emil Anderson and Mrs Anderson welcomed a baby boy born Saturday a week ago. Miss Hilma Anderson left for Belgrade to visit friends. Elmer Tuling returned from Denver for a parental visit. Mabel Anderson visited friends in Willmar. Ed Sanderson was in Willmar Wednesday. A dime social at Jonas Enblom’s home Saturday July 13. Nels Norman returned from Colorado Springs last week. Cederstrom of Waterown visited F Cederstrom. Mrs Andrew Anderson of Minneapolis arrived for a few days at C F Anderson’s. August Gabrielson was in Willmar Tuesday. FP Holm of Atwater visited Sunday. Ringville reports Hans Hagen closes a successful parochial school term in District No. 11 after a good pupil program. Local happenings include Alfie Olson visiting New London, Ingvald Evenson to work at AL Q. Sonstegard's, and several Ladies' Aid meetings. Annie Schroeder visited Belgrade area. Olaf Ostlund photographed a local home. Aurora YP invited to meet at Big Grove on July 14.
Rev. Nels Frykman, pastor of Salem Lundby and Lake Florida Mission churches, resigned last Sunday after eighteen years in the role. He previously led a Chicago charge and will retire to Minneapolis to devote two years to completing a new hymnal for the Mission Covenant of America. He was named to the committee arranging the hymnal and expressed deep gratitude for the communities he served.
Miss Linnea C Palmquist and Mr George E Haltin were married last Friday evening at nine o clock in the Swedish Lutheran parsonage by Rev G Peterson. Witnesses were Mr and Mrs A G Hedin. Groom son of Mrs da Haltin of Fahlun and brother of Mrs Hedin. They start housekeeping in Johnson Block apartments. Groom employed with Great Northern road. The Tribune extends best wishes.
The Prinsburg Sunday school picnic on the Fourth drew a large crowd for a day of songs speeches and recitations. Participants included Rev. Burgraaf Rev. Emden Martin Breems John DeVries Annie Roelofs and James Breems. Aid Society sales netted about 49 while refreshments brought in 115 leaving a healthy balance for Mission work. Weather was ideal and the event featured community notices and local visits as residents planned future gatherings and home projects.
Sheriff Peter Bonde and deputies raided the Lake Lillian Fourth of July picnic stands and arrested John Signal on maintaining an unlicensed drinking place. Seven half barrels of beer, a beer pump and nineteen glasses were seized. Signal pleaded guilty and was fined 50 dollars plus 16 in costs. bail and appeals discussed.
Victor Knutson returns from two months travel in the western states and plans to spend vacation with family. Several locals and visitors from Willmar and Kenmare are noted, including Svea Sewing Society activities, and a Roseland defeat for the Fabian ball team at Svea. Upcoming games and social events fill the week with gatherings at Sondin and Lindblad homes and at Kandiyohi lake.
July notes from Mamre mention Miss Ida Dahlman visiting Minneapolis relatives, several Mamre residents attending Benson for the Fourth, and a well attended Mamreland church picnic. Also listed are visits by Gust Swanson of Willmar, Mrs. Oscar Fendell of Dawson with Rodman family, and Emil Ostlund’s brother pair from Minneapolis and Rutland. A lightning strike caused a cow loss near Oklund place, and Carl Norman works for F N Anderson.
A farewell surprise party was given for Miss Mary Lindquist last Saturday evening at the home of Mrs. Torkelson. An enjoyable set of four was played as a remembrance to Lindquist.
Dedication of the Guri Endresen monument is set for Sunday July 21 at two o clock in the Vikér churchyard Dovre. The program will be in Norwegian Rev O Estrem Endreson’s pastor will attend and speak. The red granite monument is carved at St Cloud quarries and is being inscribed and finished at Willmar Marble Works Shipstead Johnson Bros arranged the order.
Spicer and Green Lake residents gathered for Independence Day events and social visits. Miss Cornelia Jacobson traveled from Willmar for the holiday. teachers, relatives, and friends circulated through Spicer and nearby towns. A Swedish church social was planned for July 18 with activities in the church basement, while locals and guests from Willmar, Minneap olis, and surrounding areas shared news of travels and gatherings.
Hawick receives a hot dry spell with residents hosting and visiting kin. Ada Van Vorst and Miss Lambert are visiting Roseville relatives while Maude Hood hosts a St Paul sister. Neighbors join dinners, a tombstone dedication occurs, telephones are planned, and a new Hawick feed mill nears completion as community life continues amid summer travel and local events.
H L Halverson and C M Holm of this county and A J Smithson of Kandiyohi started as viewers on the amended Lake Lillian Cosmos ditch. The initial petition was rejected for draining a meandered Lake Lillian. The new ditch doubles length to about 30 miles, starts northwest of the lake, and would bypass Lake Lillian, potentially drying it by cutting inflow. Estimated cost runs near 50 000 dollars.
The Samuelson Block is being fitted for a well-equipped eating house and hotel run by C. B. Samuelson and M. H. Hermanson. A corner store becomes a cafe and lunch counter with twenty three furnished rooms above as a European hotel. Work aims to start soon, by Saturday or Monday at latest.
