Teachers Summer School to Open in Kandiyohi County

Four week session begins Monday in Willmar High School. Attendance expected to reach one hundred with both local and outside teachers. Prof. Selleck leads with assistants McBea McKay and Pierce. Daily schedule includes music geography physics and civics. Two free lectures planned by County Supt Bright and Prof Robertson to aid student teachers.

Light hay crop in Whitefield area July harvest start

July 1 report from Whitefield notes haying has begun with expected lighter yields than last year, especially on low lands. Edman improv ing healing eyes return home report

Arctandoi 2 David Edman continues to seek medical aid in cities for eye problems and is said to be improving and soon return home. Dist 56 school question timing remains unsettled as officials weigh options. Herman Edman and family visit Chippewa county relatives as Misa Laura Nelson returns from Willmar with Mrs G A Erickson. The Kambestads come home from South Dakota after visiting. Weather notes say crops heading out well with favorable rain aiding pastures. Shoberg of Long Lake led Baptists services while C L Englund hosted many Willmar guests. Annie Hegetrom heads to Kenmare Oak with Inez for a visit with possible claim.

Fourth of July storm hits county picnic areas and Green Lake twister

A July 4 storm swept through the county causing grain loss and minor damage to sheds. At Green Lake a twister passed over the water terrifying picnickers and a barn on shore blown into the lake. Many sought shelter as boats and the steamer crowded the lake. Some travelers faced accidents in darkness and mud after the storm subsided. In Norway Lake township Rawson croughs brought a suit against the township for flood damage. the case was dismissed. A new suit names Ole Rindahl and Ole Flolo as defendants.

Weeds threaten city beauty. residents urged to cut

The editor calls attention to careless weed growth along streets and trestles near property. If freeholders cut weeds along their curb, the city’s appearance would improve significantly. Citizens urged to improve efforts in the future.

Willmar Council Approves Street Petition and Tax Collector

Willmar city council met in the council room on July 7 1902 with Mayor George W Tyler presiding. The body heard A N Lewis and others petitioning for sprinkling of streets, no objections were raised, and the hearing was adjourned to July 4 at 8 pm. the sidewall width of block 24 was set at 6 feet. the mayor was authorized to appoint a poll tax and dog license collector with 10 percent commission, T K Stalland to serve. a committee of Aldermen Markhus and Qvale was named to consult with the city attorney on the health officer bill. Stalland was confirmed as collector and the council adjourned to 8 pm on the following Wednesday. Attest: Geo W Tyler, City Clerk Samuel Osmundson.

Willmar Fair Prospects, Swedish Lutherans in Session

The Willmar area anticipates a strong street fair with ample displays and entertainment. Amusement committees and boosters plan attractions including a mammoth spiral tower by Prof Lionel Legare. Swedish Lutheran meetings unfold in Morris and nearby towns as ministers and congregations convene across the district.

Fourth of July Celebrations Across Willmar Area

Citizens enjoyed picnics and church gatherings in Benson, Marshall, and Litchfield amid large crowds and a Morris beat Willmar 8 to 2 for a 75 purse. Gun club absence noted. bands praised in Marshall. A storm cut programs, receipts from the Svea pine and Glarum grove events supported church building funds.

Barbed wire crash injures Willmar team on night drive

Deplorable accident near New London involved Dr J P Hawkingoo and Diet Kjer lang returning from a Willmar agency outing. Horses were badly cut by barbed wire after a wrong turn and a buggy wreck, seven miles from Willmar, with a veterinary surgeon tending the injured animals. Judge C E Lion and wife departed for a short visit to Meeter county relatives.
