Prominent Citizen Matt Sandbo Dies After Illness

Matteh T Sandbo, 36 years old, former Willmar city council member and restaurateur, died at 5:15 AM after a twelve week illness from typhoid fever and quick consumption. He leaves a wife, 19 month old son, father Ole Sandbo, four brothers Albert Edward Alexander Olof, a sister Tilda, and several business interests including Black Bay and Morning Glory Mining Companies. A severe storm near New Paynesville caused extensive damage to mills, farms, and structures, with losses reported across Kandiyohi County and nearby towns.

Funeral Service And Interment Planned In Lutheran Church

The funeral is set for tomorrow afternoon with a brief service at 2 o'clock at the residence. Remains will be moved to the Lutheran Synod church for final services, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. C Heimdahl will officiate.

O Brien seeks license transfer to Willmar man

P H O'Brien plans to transfer his saloon license as he sells out and goes on the road as a traveling salesman for a wholesale house. The notice published in the Atwater Republican Press asks for the license transfer to Hans Johnson of Willmar. Olson and Skoolheim begin foundation work on the new library building with completion expected late September.

City Salons Meet and City Bills Approved

At the adjourned City Council meeting last Monday evening a large batch of bills was ordered paid including old year debts from the prosperous saloon era. Four hundred dollars was paid to H Olson on an old bill for erecting the power house. The Augusta Avenue and part of First street grading contract was awarded to John T Swenson for 105 dollars. Water and Light Commissioners were paid 1666 dollars 62 cents to apply on the city water light contract. Interest expanded debt of 75 dollars was paid. Elitewalks were condemned and new cement walks ordered on business streets.

Lightning strikes granary at Dovre causes heavy damage

A storm night storm strikes J. J. Bjork's granary at Dovre destroying one wall and part of the roof. Bjork's son Eddy was knocked back by a nearby lightning stroke but not seriously hurt. Smoke and sulphur filled the air as boards turned to sawdust. damage estimated at about 30 dollars.

Miss Clara Larson brought to Willmar for care

Miss Clara Larson daughter of L H Larson of Lake Andrew was brought to Willmar last Monday from Strandberg South Dakota where she spent time with her grandmother Mrs Nels Ellison. She has been ill and will stay under Dr Johnson care before returning home. She came with her uncle Joseph Ellison sister Nellie Larson and Mr Albert Johnson. The Lutheran Bethel Church Rev Peterson received a month's mission assignment to North Dakota and started yesterday. He expects to return for services on the first Sunday in August. On Sunday July 19 pulpit to be supplied by Rev Lundberg or Mr Lindgren of Svea.

Two Porkers in Court In Friction Over A Blind Pig Case

In Willmar city hall last Monday a blind pig case ended with Ben Waterman pleading guilty after a jury failed to reach a verdict. Judge Otterness placed a 65 fine. Waterman may move on. Earlier City of Willmar vs Chas Hilson saw a guilty verdict and 50 fine or 40 days jail. A Sunday school picnic is planned July 16 by First Presbyterian at Sperry Grove Footlake, with a 9 o’clock march from the church.

A Successful Fourth Observed by Willmar Lutherans

The Lutheran Free church and friends celebrated the Fourth with exercises at the church and parsonage grounds in Willmar after rain ruined plans for Glarum farm. Rev Helland of Minneapolis spoke on liberty and patriotism, Achorus sang the national anthem, violinist Mr. Ormbeck entertained, and receipts from dinner and refreshment sales totaled 107 dollars with 85 dollars cleared by the ladies. Also reported are broom price increases due to floods and news of Ellen Nygren’s appendectomy in Minneapolis.

Free Mail Delivery Expands On Local Routes

Changes to mail service at the start of the month split trips into two daily routes for Ringville Burbank and Colfax with Week Geer delivering to Burbank Colfax and T K Hasbrouck serving Ringville. Free delivery boxes may be placed along routes, applies also to Norway Lake Sunbury route via Mr Griefson.
