School Board Elects Mr Foster Supt

At a Willmar school board meeting G A Foster of Wheaton was elected superintendent of Willmar schools. Foster, noted as an experienced educator, comes with strong state-wide recognition and will visit Saturday with his family to follow.

Roseland Community Notes July Updates and Trades

Roseland brief notes record visits by the Plowmans and Gort family, Nauta farm sale at $45 per acre, and various locals returning from travels. Miss Tracy Burkema spent Sunday afternoon with the Gorts while Hester Dykema and Miss Gertie Stob are mentioned among household changes and travels. August Anderson sold his farm to Iowa buyers. Louis Talen to work for Gerhard Damhaf. Henry Johnson explored a homestead in Bowman County but found it dry. Christine Gulavik completed a dressmaking course in Belgrade and returned Friday.

Sangerfest Concert Promises Record Willmar Attendance

Final preparations set for July 14 concert by the Scandinavian Singers of the Twin Cities in Willmar Park pavilion. Paired with baritone Paulus Anderson and Gustavus Johnson, the program features Grieg selections and the Per Gynt suite. Soloist Elizabeth Middelman to join. audiences expect peak Northwest turnout. Railroads plan extra coaches and trains to handle crowds, promising a top summer entertainment event.

Miss Ruth Stewart Graduating Recital at St Agatha's

Ruth Stewart hosted a graduating recital at St Agatha's Conservatory in St Paul on Thursday afternoon June 30. She displayed rare musical talent with high merit, earning compliments from instructors and friends. Assisted by Edna Loft the program featured piano and violin works by Mozart Schubert Mendelssohn Schumann Chopin Beethoven Wagner Friml Liszt and more.

The Swedish Luth Bethel Young Peoples society will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday July 13 1910 at 8 PM. Program includes Skoglund Orchestra music vocal duets by Misses Berg auist and Freeda Norman readings by Hazel Nelson and Lydia Johnson piano solo by Miss Amy Hoganson clarinet solo by Walter Skoglund and vocal solo by Miss Hildur Ryden Refreshments served by Misses Ida and Emma Johnson Everyone welcome. The Willmar Land Company opens offices July 1 in the Ekander building on Fourth St real estate loans collections and insurance are offered. Founders are I. T. Cramer J. E. Leslie and Wm. O. Johnson. Wesley Swenson of La Bolt SD visited here and at Long Lake last week. Miss Bertha Thyden spent Friday with Litchfield friends.

Bonet SOCIALLY Sunny Pink and white sweet peas wedding

Miss Florence Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick L Smith married Edward Everett Powers son of Judge and Mrs Powers of Granite Falls at noon on June 30 in a quiet home ceremony. Forty relatives attended as Lohengrin chorus announced the bride. The gown was white batiste with lace and white roses in a bouquet. An informal reception followed and a wedding breakfast was served. The couple will live on St Anthony Street after their return. Elkfer Johnson Miss Hattie Adeline Johnson and Mr William Peter Elkjer wed at the bride’s parents home in a small ceremony. The couple, with maid Esther Johnson and Edward Elkier in attendance, were dressed in white. Pink and green decor adorned the rooms and a white and green wedding bell hung over the group. An appeal urging readers to send for an illustrated program and outlining safe hitching places inside grounds for teams with horse feed and hay, available stabling, automobile checks with staff, meals on the grounds, and assigned camping areas for camp equipment. Plan to visit for the season or part of it.

Homewood Fourth Celebrated At Park With Band And Fireworks

A crowd estimated at four to five thousand enjoyed Homewood Park Fourth of July events. Highlights included Pennock band music, a faux battle at dusk, a Columbia tableau, and a bonfire. Funds raised totaled $115 with expenses around $110 and volunteers urged further donations to close the books.

Bryant Becomes Sole Proprietor of Merchants Hotel

Mrs. F. W. Minton has sold her interest to A. O. Bryant, making him sole proprietor of the Merchants Hotel effective July 1. The Minton departure draws warm wishes from travelers and Willmar friends who hope she will stay. The Bryants will continue the business with expected same generous patronage. Also noted is a Crystal wedding surprise for Rev. and Mrs. J. N. Andersen, with a church reception and dinner following.

Thorpe presents gifts to guests of honor at donors event

Sen. L. O. Thorpe, on behalf of donors, gave guests of honor a $50 New Home sewing machine, a cut glass bowl, and some cash, praising the pastor's work. Rev. Anderson replied with thanks and urged continued progress through pastor and congregation cooperation.

Burial for Leah McGarry in Free Lutheran cemetery

The body of Leah McGarry eight daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm McGarry of St Paul was brought here for burial on Monday. Funeral services were held in St Paul and the interment was made in the cemetery of the Free Lutheran church in this city. Rev M B Michaelson officiated. The little girl who died after a brief illness was a granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Ole Gilbertson and a niece of T C Gilbert and A N Gilbertson.

G N Passenger Wreck at Wayzata

Great Northern train No 9 rear ends a lake train at Wayzata about 8 30 pm causing a wreck that delays the thru passenger six hours. The lake train car remained empty wreck injuries few and one serious. Passengers from Willmar include Miss Amanda Larson Mr and Mrs A P Mathews Jalimer Pearson J S Robbins and Walter Hoglund all escaped unharmed. Cause unclear likely order confusion after the brakeman called Wayzata. Engineer and fireman escaped death by jumping.

Swedish and Norwegian church activities and local home sales

Next Sunday at the Swedish Methodist Church there will be sunday school at 10 am, morning worship at 11, Epworth League at 7 pm led by Miss Carlson, and an evening service at 8 pm. A Thursday prayer meeting and Friday lawn social with ice cream and cake are planned. The Swedish School runs 9 am to 12 pm. In the Norwegian Lutheran Synod, next Sunday services are at 10:30 am in Norwegian, with a Young Peoples Social in the church basement next Friday. The confirmation class meets Saturday at 10 am. C Glarum has sold part of his farm to John A Anderson, who will move here and build a home. the Anderson family currently resides on East Becker Avenue. Lars J Kvam, moving from near Bellingham, bought the Mario Johnson residence in Spicer’s addition and plans to relocate by Sept 1. Both families chose Willmar. transactions handled by Lewis Johnson agency. The union Sunday School picnic is set for Tuesday July 12 at 2 pm at Roen’s farm, 20 miles west of Willmar, with a program, addresses, games, and refreshments to benefit the Sunday school committee.

Arpi Quartette members Mesars Carl Knock and Marty Hedberg of G A College were callers in Willmar yesterday. They have been engaged to sing at Tripolis on the Fourth and will perform for two days at the Willmar Assembly, a event locals are eager to attend.
