A series of local social items details visits and travel. Dr. and Mrs. Frost make calls at Kandiyohi while Helen Wright spends a month in Hyansville Wisconsin. Wilson Becomes Democratic Nominee on Forty-Sixth Ballot

Baltimore July 3 The withdrawal of Oscar W Underwood after the forty-fifth ballot made Woodrow Wilson the Democratic presidential nominee. The forty-sixth ballot ended a bitter contest with Wilson closing within about 100 votes of the nomination after multiple roll calls. Delegates shifted loyalties as Murphy and Clark factions dissolved, Bankhead Stone and others released delegates, and the convention prepared for Wilson to be acclaimed.

Birkeland and Meckeland wed in June at Willmar

Emma Birkeland daughter of Mr and Mrs Lars Birkeland of 1416 Gorton Ave became the wife of Jacob Meckeland last Wednesday evening June 26 at eight. The ceremony was by Reverend Tallakson of Rogers Minn. Bridesmaids were Julia Fodness and Anna Larson. Marie Bothen played the wedding march. A wedding supper followed at the bride's home around 9:30. Over fifty guests attended. The groom owns part of Willmar Cigar Co and the couple will live at the bride’s home for now.

Erickson Seeks Willmar Aldermanic Seat on Democratic Ticket

G A Erickson of Willmar states he will file as a Democratic candidate for the district alderman race. He indicates plans to run on the party line and seeks support from local voters.

Prohibition Campaign Tour Hits Towns This Month

The Prohibition campaign group will visit Willmar Atwater Spicer and nearby towns starting Monday July 5 for noon meetings. Lead speaker A J Markve, a noted state politician, yields forty five minutes of pointed rhetoric, with daily routes covering six to eight towns despite rough roads and weather. The caravan has traveled for over a month and plans hard driving through November 6.

Drowning of Irving Young Farmer at Long Lake

John S. Carlson twenty eight, son of Mrs Anna Carlson, drowned Sunday forenoon at 11 80 in Long Lake near Fred Smithson's North Shore. Swenson his hired man and Fred Smithson dove but could not save him. body recovered about sixteen feet deep. Funeral held yesterday at Lebanon church New London. he was single, located homestead in St Louis county this summer, father deceased, sister Anna Highstrom surviving.

Lake Elizabeth updates note July four events in Willmar with the Military and Pennock Bands concerts at Assembly Park and downtown venues, foot races, a park dinner, a dual concert at the Auditorium, speeches by T. C. Gilbert, home talent program, balloons, races, and fireworks. Local arrivals and a serious appendicitis case for Albert Olson are mentioned, plus wedding notices and church services at Swedish Mission Church with Rev. Dahlbjern.

Luther League Holds Rousing Willmar Convention

The second annual Luther League convention of Swedish Lutheran churches in Willmar district ended with a concert at Assembly Park Auditorium. Delegates from many churches attended. Highlights included speeches by Rev. Chr Swenson and Prof. A. E. Nelson, musical numbers by the Bethel choir and soloists, and a Sunday program featuring sermons and recitations. Officers elected: Rev. Linner president, Rev. Swenson vice president, Alma Evenson secretary, Walter Inglund treasurer. A picnic at Assembly Park and a State Farm visit preceded a closing concert drawing visitors from across the district.

Wedding and League Event At Svea And Whitefield

A wedding last Thursday at Svea joined Missamma Anson and Oscar H. Johnson in the Lutheran church with Rev. A J Ryden officiating. The reception followed at the bride’s home with 100 plus guests, blue and white decor, and a large tent for dining. Also noted is a district league gathering with music and speeches, attendance strong, aimed at boosting youth interest and church relations.

Tyler Weds Miss Curglotta in Rochester Minnesota

George Harvey Tyler now of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Tyler of this city married Miss Curglotta daughter of Mrs. H Bamber last Saturday evening in Rochester Minnesota. The ceremony used the wedding prayer and the bride wore embroidered loniffon over white satin with pearls and a veil. A quiet wedding occurred due to the death of the bride's father Dr O Bamber. The groom gave a diamond crescent. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. George W. Tyler of Willmar. The couple will reside in Elk River Minnesota with Tyler serving as county attorney of Sherburne county.

Eight-Year-Old Dies From Lockjaw In Willmar Area

Keon Morgan, 8, son of C. L. Morgan of 50 Raney street St Paul, died yesterday at one o’clock while visiting his aunt near Willmar after contracting tetanus from a nail scratch. Funeral at First M. E. church Willmar Thursday with Rev Parmeter officiating. Interment at Fairview cemetery. The Wilmar Pika Lodge held a large initiation with many members and visitors from nearby towns. The Willmar lodge now counts 359 members. A Free Lutheran convention gathered in Irving with many Willmar attendees and a long list of relatives and visitors from surrounding communities.

Silver Wedding Anniversary Observed at Foot Lake Shore

The 26th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Kifland of Elia Avenue on Foot Lake was celebrated by the Ladies' Ald Society of the Vinde church. Seventy five members arrived last Monday night to congratulate the couple, presenting a silver baking dish and purse of silver money. A lawn lunch followed, and guests enjoyed an engaging time.

Willmar Falls Before Kerkhoven In Heat

In a hot defeating game Willmar lost 5 to 3 to Kerkhoven. A Johnson homered, Nordstrom made a running catch, and Bottles Berg issued two walks leading to Willmar scoring in the fourth and seventh. Kerkhoven’s Bere struck out six as Willmar’s pitching faltered.
