Willmar will celebrate the Fourth tomorrow with community events. Numerous local residents share travel, work, and leisure notes from the week including Richard Haley’s return to Minneapolis and new hires at Alden cash store. A damaging storm swept Minnesota with cyclones, destroying homes and injuring several, while Willmar reports assessors finishing returns and a busy municipal scene.
A storm last Wednesday caused severe damage across the county. Reports include a barn wrecked in Wakefield, a granary shifted in Whitefield, windmills blown down, and lines struck north toward Grand Forks and Hillsboro. Ballasting on the Sioux Falls line finished. 500 to 600 men worked between Russell and Garretton.
The marriage of Henry E. Olson to Ida Nelson was solemnized Saturday at two in the afternoon at the Lutheran Free church with Rev. E. E. Gynild officiating. The ceremony featured white drapings, roses, ferns, and Lohengren’s wedding march. The couple will reside in Willmar where the groom runs a blacksmith shop. a reception followed at the groom’s parents’ home in Eagle Lake. Obituary notices: Anna Olson died aged 20 of consumption, funeral at St Johns church. John Martin Stanghelle, aged 0, died at Mamra, funeral at Hauge church.
France A. Ardof and Miss Martha Buchanan of New London were married in Willmar by Rev. D. T. Booth yesterday. A reception for invited friends will be held at the bride’s home next Saturday. Ardof rents a farm east of New London. The Taison wishes the couple happiness and prosperity.
Rural notices from Priam and surrounding areas report visitors and departures in Willmar, barn constructions, repairs, and farm work. Weather includes rain and budding crops. several weddings and picnics noted, plus Fourth of July plans at Svea and Lin tonville. A ball game results and local accidents mentioned.
June 28 report from Kerkhoven notes F L and Miss Monday Johnson visiting Willmar. Miss Clara Odell goes to Willmar to be with her mother seriously ill. John Olson from Belgrade to open a general store in the Soland build ing, with J Olson & Co. as firm name. Other local notes include crops improving, several visits, and a wind storm last week causing damage.
Whitefield July 2 Fred and Leng Oftedahl visited relatives and friends in Cottonwood county last week. Ole Nyman of Lake Andrew called on Whitefield friends Sunday. Henry Bjornson has hired out to Fred Oftedahl for two months. Olof Mattson and elders Adelia and Clara visited with Lake Andrew friend. Clara Mattson back from Lake Andrew. Theodore Monson back here after working on a railroad in Iowa. Nels Larson hired out to his uncle Pete Nelson for two months.
Ringville reports a recent baseball game where the town boys defeated Lintonville. Local residents include Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roe hosting Amund Sonstegard and P.O. Iverson receiving visits. Jonas Christenson and John Peterson appear in the week’s notes as well as Lena and Cora Stenbakken. A Crow River church concert is announced for Sunday July 7 with services at 10:30 a.m. and a 2 p.m. program.
Moat Lake on July 1 reports Editor Lawson and his wife visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs S M Nelson. Christine Nelson visited the Miller family at Diamond Lake over the weekend. A Greenloss Meeker county group of Frida Agda Selma Erickson Edwin Ansgarius Johnson and August Oldoni visited old friends here and left Monday.
