Citizens packed Borgeson's Hall in Willmar for a mass meeting denouncing County Attorney Johnson's decision to postpone 15 blind pig cases from the grand jury. The Civic Federation circulated notices and pressed for accountability while witnesses traveled long distances. The Minneapolis Tribune report details the 1900s fraud case involving Miller Randall and Gilder who built the Mutual Insurance company at Hankinson North Dakota and later expanded to Minnesota. They faced trial in Minneapolis with arrest by Assistant District Attorney Engerud.
Martin E. Monson a Willmar carpenter aged forty died from burns after saving his wife and son from a lamp explosion fire that destroyed their home at 813 Twenty fifth avenue south. He lingered at St Marys hospital while a neighbor rescued him, and a post mortem confirmed burns as the cause. His body will be shipped to Sacred Heart Minnesota for relatives.
The Lutheran Tripolis congregation will hold its annual patriotic celebration on the church campus. Dinner and refreshments will be served under the trees, with the program inside the church. Rev. P. E. Berg of Watertown will speak in Swedish, V. E. Lanson will give an English talk on Paxton, Ill, and Fridolph Lindholm will play violin. The choir will sing patriotic and religious songs and recitations by young ladies. Evening events include firework display and refreshments near the parsonage. All are welcome.
Two adoption petitions were approved by Judge Nordin in probate court last Monday. Dr Gustavus Newman and wife won permission to adopt Margery Christopherson from the Children's Home Society, while Lucas Slagter and wife were allowed to adopt Emily Nyhard. The Slagters' child’s father had died earlier and the mother remarried. after state investigators found no abuse, the mother agreed the child should have a new home. Rev H C Buell led his first services next Sunday at Whitefield schoolhouse.
Willmar Provision Company will lease the new Westberg building on Benson avenue and is expected to be ready for occupancy soon. Articles of incorporation filed naming A F Nordin S P Johnson O J Paulson M O Thorpe Albert Lund Ole Barnstad Peter Hakenson O B Olaon O H Westberg R K Hier and A G Johnson as incorporators. Directors include Nordin Johnson Paulson Thorpe Lund Barnstad Hakannon. About forty subscribers to a 10000 capital stock, shares at 25 each. Lund and Bakenson arranged market equipment. Settlement for 1000.00 in progress.
Geo W. Johnson, while with Willmar Jobbing and Manufacturing Co, was thrown from a wagon when a frightened mare bolted past a moving truck at the depot platform. He suffered a sprained wrist and other injuries but is able to be about after treatment by Dr. Harold Frost.
Mr and Mrs Thrond J Alvig were guests of honor at a Saturday night surprise at their First ward home. About 20 friends attended and presented a rocking chair as a wedding gift. Mr Alvig, a Willmar Route No 1 mail carrier, married Miss Julia Thorson on June 12 in Lake Andrew town, with Willmar friends wishing them a long and prosperous life.
The Sunday School of the Swedish Baptist church plans a July fourth picnic in Andrew Patterson grove in the west part of the city. The Ladies Sewing Society will conduct an auction sale during the event. Ice cream cake and coffee will be served. Members meet at 10 a.m. at the church and proceed in a body. The auction begins at 2 p.m.

A Soo Line brakeman named Jay Woodruff was killed in a New Paynesville yard accident yesterday morning. The three-section freight train was being joined when a coupling line broke and a car struck Woodruff, fatally injuring him instantly. His body was embalmed and awaits relatives’ advise. He was about 40 years old, married in this city, with old home in Sauk Centre. A sister, Mrs. Watson, is married to a G N conductor at Melrose. Harry Woodruff, a St. Cloud ex-railroad man, is a Northwestern conductor based in Milwaukee.
