Forty-Five Enroll for Study Tuesday War Training Courses

The Vocational War Training Committee meeting in the library basement last week approved courses for prospective soldiers in cabinet making carpentry drawing topographical and mechanical subjects plus blacksmithing horse shoeing concrete work cooking machine shop practice shorthand typewriting airplane woodworking chauffeuring truck repair veterinary science surveying. Enlisted men in Classes 1 and II are urged to enroll with government support. Instructors listed include E L Rodegeb E R Bender C M Hoffstad Vida McGillagray and others from local schools garages and businesses. 45 registrants enrolled last night and preference leaned toward chauffeuring truck driving machine shop aeroplane woodwork and typing. O C Alvin filed for superintendent of schools.

Third Liberty Loan chairmen are named in county

The Federal Reserve Bank appointed precinct chairmen to lead the Third Liberty Loan drive across townships and villages. County chairman Odell says sale dates are not yet fixed and further appointments will follow. Ward leaders named include Olson, Wellin, Holt, and Erickson for Willmar's four wards.

Sundberg Funeral at Fahlun Baptist Church

The Sundberg funeral near Spicer on January 22, held at Fahlun Baptist Church, was led by Rev. Paul Hallin. The service featured Amos 4 12, with songs including Rock of Ages and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. Mabel and Willard Lundquist sang duet, a mixed quartet performed I Shall Know Him, and pallbearers included Richard Johnson, Arthur Hed, and Andrew Westling.

Funeral rites for Erickson Johnson Norling held in Spicer

Alger Erickson Fred Johnson and Fred Norling were honored in a Thursday funeral at the Presbyterian church in Spicer before remains were moved to Willmar. Attending relatives included Mr and Mrs Eric Rosen an aunt and uncle and cousin Eric Nylen with friends from Minneapolis and nearby towns. Local officials noted visits by F J Lev deputy sheriff Travere County and others on various business trips as Almetedt departed for a visit.

Golden Wedding Examinations Begin Next Monday

A local community marks the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jorgenson Dale with a Golden Wedding reception at the O. O. F. hall. Family and pioneer friends gather for roses, dinner, and speeches. The event highlights the couple’s long residence and service in Kandiyohi County, with six surviving children and twelve grandchildren. Separately, readers are informed that registrants’ physical examinations for the war will begin next Monday with a three-day schedule and lists of names for February 4 6 8, 1918 pending further publication.

Corporal Bass and a recruiting officer at Willmar invite men to join Uncle Sam with roles in lumber woods railroads and road construction. The Minnesota Safety Commission hears Kandyah County on closing saloons during the war with church support. Local board members Bonde Nelson and Davison honored with bronze shields for service. Barquist of Willmar Motor Club spearheads collection of old automobile tags to raise funds for the Red Cross. secretary Berequist coordinates, with state firm buyers named. Obits for Minnie Kalberg and Lars Birkeland

Obituary notices recall Minnie Kalberg daughter of Rev J G Kalberg who died after several weeks illness at age 25 in Hector. Funeral held at Swedish Lutheran church in Hector with relatives from Lake Lillian Svea and nearby. Also remembered are Lars Birkeland a longtime Willmar resident born in Norway 1854 who died at his home. funeral services planned at his home and Vinje Lutheran church with Rev J N Andersen officiating. Swedish Lutheran Church Gathering in Willmar District

The Willmar District meeting of the Swedish Lutheran Minnesota Conference convened at Bathel church with ministers from New London Atwater Willmar and other towns. Delegates to the Augustana Synod were elected and alternates named. Afternoon session featured district reports and further discussion. Alumni of the University of Minnesota also plan a meeting at the Mascole Temple in Willmar to discuss matters and adopt a constitution.

Recreation Fund Solicitor Praises Donations
