Rural Mail Routes Expand in Minnesota Report
Washington reports Minnesota shows 1243 rural route applications with 701 favored and routes set or to be set by Feb 1. Adverse reviews number 117 due to insufficient families or unsuitable roads. Total national rural routes reach 20,382 with about 1,500 more planned by Feb 1. Minnesota may extend routes statewide as funds allow and congress approves next year’s appropriation. Willmar to Open New Post Office in George W Johnson Building
Willmar will move its post office to the George W Johnson building next Monday February first. Postmaster Birch and clerks will remove mails early in the week to avoid service disruption. The new quarters boast double doors, 700 rock boxes, and a rural route expansion that will close the Grue post office. Inspector Drake praised the facilities during his visit. Passengers shaken as Winnipeg train derails near Benson
An early Monday train from Winnipeg derailed near Benson after a broken rail, tipping the sleeper car down a steep grade.
