Hospital Topic of Discussion At City Meeting

Discussion at the Masonic Temple reviewed plans for a new city hospital funded by private donations with city and county aid. Speakers urged a noncommercial hospital governed without doctor control and with female incorporators, citing Mayo and Minneapolis examples to guide a civic project.

San Diego Expo Expands Scope for 1916 International Exposition

A preparatory meeting discusses subscriptions for a new hospital, with a diverse committee from many walks of life. The San Diego Expo's scope expands greatly to include Canada, Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, using many displays from the Francisca Exposition. The ship Mars arrives with 150 tons of government exhibits for deployment through 1916, and official participation grows with multiple government bands and troops expected on grounds.

Ve OMA Club Holds Meeting and Elects Officers

The club met at Club Rooms last Thursday with spot attendance. Reports by secretary and treasurer were read and approved. Officers for the ensuing year elected: Donnington President, Odell Vice President, Lundquist Secretary, Haines Treasurer, Curran Sargeant-at-Arms. Directors are Cyrison, Burdick, Bjorberg, Anderson, Leach, Nordstrom. Club finances sound. forty five members. They moved to new rooms over Berkness Lundberg Co and invite members to attend or help as guides.

Atwater Co operatives to Convene Annual Meeting

Martin A. Anderson secretary of the Atwater Cooperative Mercantile Company sent notices for the annual business meeting at Atwater Town Hall on Wednesday at 1:30 PM. Ninety eight shareholders will nominate directors to be elected by referendum ballot.

Dr James S Gibson Kandiyohi pioneer passes away

Dr James S Gibson a Territorial pioneer and Kandiyohi’s first resident physician died in Wayzata. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Atwater where he was an active member. He was born in Ayr Ontario in November 1842 and moved with his family across Ontario and to Dodge county before settling in Minnesota.

Obituary of Dr Gibson Pioneer Minnesota Physician

In July 1866 at Owatonna Dr Gibson married Evaline Libby daughter of Methodist minister Thomas Libby. He studied at Chicago Medical College graduating 1869 then practiced at Green Lake 1869, New London 1870, Atwater from 1873 until retirement. He aided distressed citizens and civic progress leaving a son Atty Gibson and two daughters. Albert H Sperry attended the funeral. He answered every call despite weather or pay, noted for rugged health and selfless community service.

Roadside School Dedicated Near St Johns Church

The dedication of the new school in District No 45 near St Johns church last Thursday evening drew large crowds. Pupils and Willmar teachers filled entrances and basement as four bobsleigh loads attended with Supt G A Foster presiding and Lafayette school pupils performing songs.

Willmar School Dedication Honors Pioneer Founders

A detailed account of the dedication of a new Willmar district school in 1914. Speakers include Nels Nelson, August Forsberg, C J Hanson, and Mabel Carney. The ceremony featured student pledges, civic praise, and a tour of the modern facility with east-facing windows, a well-lit basement, and a main upper floor. High School to Stage Sylvia Operetta This Week

The high school chorus under Miss James presents the operetta Sylvia Thursday and Friday evenings. A stage is ready in the auditorium and an 8 o clock curtain is expected for student and public performances with a 25 cent admission.
