Ed Sandbo veteran restaurateur returns to Willmar to take sole ownership of the Delmonico Cafe after a Monday closing with N A Pappas. Pappas, who bought the business a year ago, plans travel and thanks patrons and staff as Sandbo prepares to assume charge tomorrow. County to Weigh and Measure Children in Schools

The county nurse Migsnea Imsdail will visit schools to weigh and measure children up to junior high and perform health duties. This precedes a later, fuller examination date. Miss Smedahl has recently recovered from a medical issue and cannot be used as desired.

John Starr Sentenced for Coal Theft in Municipal Court

John Starr was sentenced by Judge Muller in Municipal Court after pleading guilty to stealing coal from the Great Northern Railway. Charges were preferred by Yard Police Rosenquist. Starr received five days in the county jail.

Miss Hsther Johnson Undergoes Surgery at Rest Hospital

Miss Hsther Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs J A Johnson underwent operations for adenoids tonsils and appendix at Rest Hospital on Monday January 16. Dr Hanson and Dr Benson performed the procedures. She is progressing well though recovery incomplete. County Chairman Ed Sanderson is finishing Red Cross drive records with many reports still incomplete.

Civil War veteran shares practical talk with pupils

Civil War veteran J. B. Boyd spoke to 8th grade pupils on Wednesday afternoon after their history study. He described war realities with photographs from actual battles and recounted his Sherman’s army experiences 105 days from Chattanooga to Atlanta and the 200 mile March to the Sea. The talk mixed lessons with humor, leaving students eager for another visit.

Prof Dixon of Willmar Bible School left Friday for Minneapolis to undergo an operation for appendicitis. He has suffered from this ailment for some time and was advised the operation was imperative. He will return as soon as he is physically able. The operation was performed on Monday morning.

The Hamline University Glee Club will perform at Willmar High School auditorium on February 7 under Prof. J A Jaeger. The oldest Northwest glee club on its 38th annual tour, the group features tenors, basses, and a selected repertoire during the concert, with tickets sold by the Junior class.

Willmar to Face Howard Lake in Return Game

The Wilmar city team travels to Howard Lake for a Saturday night return game following a 34 to 20 home victory. Willmar expects a fast, close contest as the teams are evenly matched and will field the same lineup as in prior games. Young tenor to give recital at Synod Lutheran church

Promising young tenor Malven Norby of New York will present a concert at the Vinje Lutheran church on Wednesday evening February 1 under the Vinje Luther League auspices. The program will mix Norwegian and English songs with admissions 85 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. The event opens at 8:00 p.m. Strong endorsements from Dr. H. G Stub and Rev. N. M. Yivisaker praise Norby as a gifted singer with a refined voice and moving stage presence.

Lofgren Family Attends Golden Wedding in St Paul

H P Lofgren and his daughter Mabel left Mamre for St Paul to attend the golden wedding of Lewis Ekstrand. The ceremony took place Saturday evening at St Lutheran Church in St Paul. The Lofgrens plan to visit the cities for a few days before returning home.

Chief Mechanician Anderson a government postoffice inspector conducted an inspection of the Willmar postoffice on Tuesday and will inspect the Spicer and New London offices. Ship Garload of Buffalo and Carp Sent to New York

The Eagle Lake fishing crew shipped a carload of 27 500 pounds of fresh buffalo and carp to New York as the first winter catch. The car left on Tuesday and will reach New York by the fastest route. The crew has worked five weeks, noting a large catch escaped previously.

Big slide draws crowds at fair grounds hill

The big slide on the Fair Grounds hill attracts growing crowds as boys keep it in excellent condition. On Sundays the hill is crowded with winter sport enthusiasts. Riders glide far over the lake with long rides and long walks back, as skating is not mentioned this winter.

Willmar Municipal Band To Feature February Concert

The Willmar Municipal Band under Clarence Granoski will perform its first season concert on Sunday afternoon February 6 at the Majestic theatre. The 25 piece ensemble will play eight numbers plus violin and piano pieces including Bridal Rose Overture and Faust Overture. Willmar Choral Society to Present Messiah Concert

The Willmar Choral Society will perform the oratorio Messiah on Tuesday evening February 28 in Willmar. Soloists from Minneapolis include Harry Phillips bass, Agnes Rast Snyder contralto, Clara Williams soprano, and Krager tenor, under conductor David Nyvall Jr. The group of about one hundred voices will perform at the Junior High School Auditorium due to size limits of the opera house.
