The Willmar Opera House, recently remodeled, was destroyed by fire Thursday evening. Loss exceeds $20,000 with $8,000 insured, owner Alton Crosby. Fire discovered at 6:45 p.m. Volunteers fought the blaze in 30 below zero, but wind and smoke trapped interior flames. Electric wiring likely caused the fire. stage and roof collapsed, with only brick front standing. A fire hydrant and water pressure issues hindered efforts. rebuilt plans on the same site are possible. The era context notes losses to neighboring structures and the hotel bank building.

Emma Sophia Ostlund died at her West Gorton residence on January 14 at 6 10 p m heart trouble. Born October 17 1876 in Mamre township she was daughter of the late <name> and left a widow with one daughter Elenore Ostlund. She resided with her brother Albert and sisters in Willmar these last ten years. Survived by daughter Elenore and relatives including uncles E Bergquist LaBolt SD and B Erickeon Jows Ming. Funeral next Saturday at 10 o'clock with brief church services in Mamrelund Lutheran Church yard adjacent.

The Willmar Cooperative Mercantile Company announced its fifth annual dividend, six percent on shares twelve percent on stock holder purchases and six percent refund on non shareholder purchases. Total distribution for 1916 amounts to 12179.95 among 1396 customers with individual dividends from two cents to 20.46 dollars.
