A major city business announces the retirement of E C Wellin after 25 years with Peterson and Wellin. P C Peterson takes over the business as Peterson and Sons with sons Elroy and Irvin joining to manage operations. No change in policy or service standards is planned. The Willing Workers of the Mission church host a social on Friday evening, January 20 at 7:43 p.m. Invitations extend to attend. Willmar city basketball team defeated Litchfield 25 to 16 this evening in the local gym. The Willmar lineup showcased steady defense and timely scoring to secure the win.

R W Stanford of this city was elected secretary at the national Glacier Trail Association convention held last Thursday in Minneapolis. Attendees included Olot Ferring Henry G Young Alb in C Carlson John Ruddy and William O Johnson. The trail spans 100 miles from St Louis to Breckenridge via North Dakota and Montana.

Locals Defeat Howard Lake 30 to 24 in Close Battle

The Willmar City team edged Howard Lake 30 to 24 on the gym floor. Willmar led with 12 field baskets to Howard Lake's nine, Nelson and Nordstrom top-scored for Willmar, while May and Campbell led the visitors. Free throws favored Willmar 6 of 9 by Peterson and 6 of 10 by Branton.

Auditors Convene for State Association Meeting in Minneapolis

Auditor Samuel Kandiyo leads county auditors from Kandiyo county to Minneapolis for the state association’s annual convention at the courthouse. New officers will be elected. speakers from the state inspection department and other officials will address common auditing challenges. Drill Team Entertained at Mrs Lacy's Home

Miss Anna Larson Hosts Sister Zelphia's Chicago Visit

Miss Anna Larson entertained at 402 12th St. last Tuesday evening in honor of her sister Miss Zelphia who departed Saturday for Chicago. Zelphia has spent four months on vacation at their parental home in the city, that of Commissioner and Mrs. Swan Larson.

Engineers Picked For Joes Paving Plan The City

City Council selected Toltz King Day Co of St Paul as paving engineers after fourteen bids were pared to four. The firm to receive three percent of city pavement expenditures. An overhead bridge requirement by the Highway Commission ends a proposed underground crossing. A conference with engineers and council will set grades and resolve street owner concerns.

Choral Date Set for Messiah Performance

The Willmar Choral Society at the Junior High School Auditorium decided to present the oratorio Messiah on February 28. It will be the society’s first appearance, signaling a new era for city musical culture. Prof. David Nyval of Minneapolis conducts.

Buy Whitefield Farm Sold to Lindquist Brothers

A land deal completed last Monday through broker J A Johnson transferred ownership of the 160 acre Whitefield farm known as the old Swinegetter place in section 6 town of Whitefield from Mr. Myers of Iowa to Axel and Oscar Lindquist. The land valued at 160 dollars an acre was bought for 70 dollars per acre. J W Moody cashier of the First National Bank of Adrian Minn handled the closing for Mr. Myers. The farm has recently been tiled across its entire area.

Worthy Endeavor A Priam Benefit Nets 150 For Bethesda Homes

Mr. K T Rykken told Tribune about a Priam ladies social for Bethesda Homes that raised 150 and earned praise from those caring for children and aged. The W C T U met at Dr G B Forsell home at 601 First Street with a strong turnout and an engaging program led by Rev L C Benson. Lunch was provided by Mrs O A Brumin, Mrs Leonard Johnson, and Mrs Lund, and the treasury benefited notably.

Evanston man returns home after visit with family

H. M. Stanford of Evanston UL left Thaddy for his home after a visit since Saturday with his mother Mrs E. M. Stanford and his brother attorney R. W. Stanford and family. Reverend Bergquist Leaves Pennock For Forest Lake Church

Rev. C. O. Bergquist concludes five year pastorate at Mamireland and Zion Lutheran churches in Pennock with a farewell sermon last Sunday. He resigned earlier to take effect in January and will assume leadership of the Forest Lake congregation after Rev. A. W. Knock departs Berkeley California.

Congregations Grow as Bergquist Serves Pennock Past Five Years

The Pennock congregation numbers about two hundred members with total membership around four hundred across the group. Rev Bergquist arrived in October 1916 and notes growth. A new parsonage and church improvements have been completed at Mimreland and finances remain strong. Rev and Mrs Bergquist left Tuesday for Carlton to visit her parents for two weeks. The successor at Pembele is Rev Guilen of Swe deberg, Nebraska, a classmate of Rev Jesper Holmamist of Willmar.

Miss Mary Chase of the State University spoke to a large audience at the Masonic Temple on an educational program hosted by the Civic Club. Receipts neared 82 dollars. The club arranged school talks and a Lutefisk supper on Wednesday at the Lutheran Free Church with modest admission.

Majestic Theatre remodelling to broaden vaudeville acts

J F Crisp proprietor of the Majestic Theatre announces interior remodeling at the amusement house. The interior has been retinted and beautified and the stage is being expanded to a depth of thirty feet with curtain and scenery. J H Olsen and Company handle the remodeling.

Willmar boys victors in rough Atwater clash 24 to 15

Willmar High boys edged Atwater 24 to 15 in a ragged floor battle on Atwater’s floor. Larson led Atwater with 13 points, Holmberg and Grace paced Willmar, and fouls favored Willmar four to two. Girls game went to Atwater 7 to 6 after 5 extra minutes as both teams struggled for baskets.

County Farmers Petition Congress To Revive Grain Corporation

A large gathering of progressive farmers met at the courthouse on Saturday afternoon to urge Congress to revive the government grain corporation. Speakers pressed immediate relief and proposed the grain corporation pool wheat to fix cost of production and a living price, warning of foreclosures and farm bankruptcies without action. Representatives Hemming Nelson and others urged swift petitioning and support for a bill to carry out the plan.
