Heir to $2000 Missing and New Telephone Line Plan

Attorney Frank P. Olney seeks Mrs. Nellie Kirburn in connection with a $2000 life policy left by C. C. Maxon killed by Jack Shields near Kerkhoven recently. Prudential may contest the payout, saying Maxon died before policy handover. A cooperative plans a West Lake to New London telephone line. meeting on Tuesday Jan 24 at 6 o'clock p.m. Attendees urged. Presbyterian services scheduled for next Sunday with changes due to postponed Litchfield dedication.

Arctander Lecture and church notices unfold in January

An Icelandic era lecture by Mr J W Arctander on The Apostle of Alaska will be illustrated with new views and moving pictures not previously shown, at the Norwegian Free Church next Tuesday January 24. Also Bethel Swedish Lutheran church reports a sound year, new officers, six weeks of parochial school planned, and plans for building improvements. Sibley visits shareholders as Copper Creek Mining Company advances plans to install machinery by February end.

Our Boys Win Debating War at Redwood Falls

A Willmar high school debating team defeated Redwood Falls by arguing that immigration policy should be reduced. Wallace Martin led Willmar, with Maur Jenness and Victor Kauteen adding evidence. Redwood Falls’ Ida Crook impressed but could not stop the victory. The match was held at the Fire TM. E. church before a large audience. judges included Superintendent McConnel, Atty Davis, and Atty Korni. The team is coached by Prof. Tanning and will face Madison next Friday evening. The article also reports on the Lutherans Synod church annual meeting noting debt reduction pledges and building plans totaling about 417,500, plus ritual adoption and envelope system. The district court opens next Monday with 24 civil cases and a notable Waterman vs Bonde and Stephen.

Fire destroys Lawrence Hall at St Cloud Normal

A Saturday fire largely destroyed Lawrence Hall at the St Cloud State Normal. Most girls escaped, but belongings were lost. Miss Freda Giles of Verndale aided by two others escaped through smoke. Fireman John Ducan was seriously injured leaping 35 feet. Community relief efforts include local donations and student fund drives. The building, valued at 30,000 with 17,000 insurance, prompted campus and city aid for displaced students.

Willmar Library Annual Report of 1904 Era

Willmar Public Library reports a busy first year since opening February 28 1904 with 1 127 borrowers including 325 children 8147 adult and 5106 children non fiction books circulated 13 255 total. 957 books catalogued 643 donated including 22 documents from Eddy Volstead and Clapp. Reading rooms well used though exact attendance not recorded. The library notes exhibits for St Nicholas and Indian artifacts, prize draws by Chase-Lister Theater and Choral Union plans for Belle of Corneville, plus real estate transfers and local notices.

New Great Northern Office Building Opens for Use

The new Great Northern office building east of the railroad bridge opened on arrival days, featuring uniform layouts, high well lit rooms, and ample ventilation. A modern basement houses sanitary toilets, battery rooms, and a large automatic furnace supplying heat to the entire structure. The west end houses the resistant superintendent and dispatch offices while the east end holds the roadmaster, master carpenter, and master mechanic offices. The central area is occupied by the chief clerk and clerical staff.

Teachers' Examinations Schedule For State Certificates

The notice lists exams for teachers certificates on Feb 2 3 and 4 with multiple subjects and times. It states venues at Willmar Grammar School Atwater High School and New London and emphasizes bringing certificates and meeting minimum standings. Fire devastates millinery store in Litch near Masonic block

A major blaze struck Miss Anderson’s millinery shop near the Masonic block on a bitter night in Litch, causing extensive damage to the building and neighboring properties. Firefighters saved adjacent stores including the Rygh shop, with O A Newberg and family narrowly escaping. The origin remains a mystery, but the loss totals about 875 in structure and 1,300 in insured value.
