Death of Victor Nelson of Great Northern

Victor O Nelson a longtime Great Northern employee died after a swift illness at 1 20 p m last Saturday at his sister Mrs George Coffeys home in Minneapolis He was nearly 22 and had worked as a freight conductor for about two years He is survived by his mother Mrs Olson and three sisters Mrs Geo Coffey Grove City Mrs Charles Hilstrom Grove City and Mrs Jens Johnson Willmar Funeral services were held at the Hilstrom home Grove City and at the Swedish Lutheran church with Rev H C Buell officiating The body lay in state at the church with pallbearers fellow Great Northern employees and friends from Willmar attending The community closed businesses in his honor

Vital Statistics For Willmar 1905 Births And Deaths

The 1905 Willmar report by Dr John M. Ratna lists 112 births and 38 deaths for a city population of 4,000. Deaths from diphtheria typhoid fever railroad accidents consumption and tuberculosis are noted, with no major epidemics. The document also records church notices and local business moves including C O Rustad purchasing the Minneapolis Restaurant and Edward Taylor's Eagle Lake purchase. The Kandiyohi County Merchants Association elected officers for 1906. A girl was born to Mr and Mrs N W Anderson.

Madison and Willmar Open State High School Debate

Friday January 26 at the Willmar Opera House the Madison and Willmar high schools meet in the first state debate for the Minneapolis Journal cup. Madison which holds the affirmative will defend the proposal that direct primaries nominate all officers rather than delegate conventions. Willmar opposes, with Wallace Martin Victor Knutson and Carl Jacobson as their team. admission 35 cents with reserved seats available.

Mrs. W. Mose of Minneapolis visited her aged parents in Willmar. Bowling tournament drew teams from Benson, Litchfield, Clar City and Willmar with a banquet at Odd Fellows hall. John E. Murray and Anna J. Erickson married quietly at the Catholic parsonage. they will reside east of the city. Rev. Osterholm lectured on St Pauls Epistle to the Philippians at the Mission church. Mission Church services and events outlined, including a Pauline epistles series. Albert Lund joins Kelley How Thompson Co as traveling salesman for central Minnesota. A card social for St Marys Catholic church raised about twenty five dollars. Willmar Elks planning their annual ball January 25 at Bonders Hall.

The Big Store Changes Name and Layout at Local Dept Store

The Big Store formerly under Page-Lindquist Co. will be renamed Page Dept Store with L. F. Page and E. A. Berg in charge. Four departments grocery, general furnishings, dry goods and shoes will operate with new space, elevated rear office, and Cash Carrier System. Men’s and boys’ clothing line to be dropped. upper floor unused except on special occasions.
