Willmar Commercial Club annual meeting notes elections and reports

The Willmar Commercial Club held its annual meeting with strong attendance. Judge T C Gilbert was reelected president for a fourth year. F G Handy became vice president. R W Willord secretary and C W Odell treasurer. Reports show the general fund receipts and a separate entertainment fund balance. Leonard Johnson elected as a member. Prof H E Meyer urged a uniform instrument set and a director hire, sent to a committee. A new city directory was approved. Garden Contest winners announced with modest prizes. Lincoln's birthday banquet set for Feb 13. standing committees named across public improvements, roads, industry, membership, publicity, immigration, and entertainment. Three deer sightings noted near Willmar, plus wolves increasing in the Monongalia reserve. Died N O Sletten at Wegdahl on New Year’s Day. funeral attended by W O Johnson and Thonwald Sletten. Wm O Johnson slipped on ice from a broken water main, injuring an arm. no bones broken.

War on Rats Campaign Ordered by Health Authorities

Health authorities order a nationwide campaign to protect food supplies from rat waste. Store, meat market, restaurant and hotel owners must seal rat holes and screen openings to basements. Dr Rains has word from the federal Department of Agriculture to lead efforts to halt rat spread and food damage.

Opened Dental Offices by Local Dentist Hedin

Dr. Oscar E. Hedin son of Mr and Mrs A G Hedin opens his dental offices this week in the Carlson Block. He graduated from the local high school in 1913 and the University in 1916 and has since practiced in Minneapolis. He has many friends in the city who wish him success.

Annual Meetings of Lutheran Free Church in Willmar

The Lutheran Free Church of Willmar held its annual congregational meeting Tuesday afternoon electing officers including Secretary H T Olson and Deacons K T Rykken Peter Førstervold and Ludvig Olson. Finances show general fund receipts of 2235.27 with 1683 from pledges. Bethel and related societies reported varying receipts. twenty one members joined the church. The Bethel Lutheran congregation then met last evening with Rev Jesper Holmquist presiding. Samuel Nelson re elected secretary and total year receipts of 6656.00 with 3309.00 paid on a new parish project.

Wood for fuel urged to conserve coal supply

A 1917 letter from the Kandiyohi County fuel administrator appeals to timber owners to cut and use dry wood now for next winter. It notes coal shortages, wartime demands, and urges utilizing available pine and fallen timber to conserve coal for industry and the navy, urging citizen cooperation.
