Fire Hits New London Store. Loss Cited at 11000
A major blaze swept J G Peterson general merchandise in New London last Thursday evening, engulfing the store and contents with gasoline ignition. Fire department from Spicer arrived quickly, spraying water from the river, while adjacent buildings were spared save for scorching. Peterson estimates loss at 11000 with 7000 insurance. the millinery stock in the same building was largely saved. The landmark building, built in 1868 as The Regulator, has long housed the post office since 1898. The fire is New London’s most expensive it has faced to date.

The edish Baptist church held its annual business meeting on New Year’s Day afternoon. The elected officers include Erick H. Nelson as president, Lewis Ekdahl as secretary, C. J. Johnson as treasurer, Hunl ar Nyquist as a three year trustee, with Sunday school leadership by P EF Parson 8 as superintendent and Esther Benson as assistant superintendent. The Willmar Fire Department Re West Association held its annual meeting in the Municipal building Monday evening. E. P. Bjornberg was elected president C. Freeberg vice president Wm. C. Johnson secretary M. D. Manning treasurer H. W. Odell trustee for three years. Routine business was transacted. Nels Palm of Litchfield visited the city over New Years Day.

Dedicatory rites at local Masonic Temple and New Year events
The Masonic Temple in the city was dedicated last Friday with a ceremony attended by about fifty Masons from nearby areas. Grand Master Burnham of Jackson, Minnesota, delivered an address, and local lodge officers were installed. A banquet followed, hosted by the Eastern Star, and a New Year ball drew around seventy five couples. Visiting Masons from several towns were noted. In Willmar, Dr. Iver S. Benson opened a private practice in the Metropolitan Building after leaving Willmar Hospital.
