Obituary James Downs early Green Lake settler dies
James Downs, an early Green Lake settler born in County Clare Ireland about 85, died Monday afternoon after a long illness. He came to the United States 61 years ago and settled in the county in 1868, living on a homestead in section 28. Survived by wife Catharine Murray Downs four daughters Maggie Casey Mary Catlin Nellie McNulty Katie Caroline and son Atty Joe M Downs. Reverend Alo Sleds and Bri G McDevitt of Tracy to conduct services at Igk's church in Kandiyohi with burial to follow.

Cornelius Larson of New London died at home on Monday December 27 after a lengthy illness with consumption. He would have turned 35 on New Year's Day. Funeral services were held at Nordland Church in Irving after a morning at his residence. He leaves a wife, four brothers Ole A Larson Walker John E K Larson Detroit Samuel G and Emil Irving and two sisters Anna C and Louise. Larson wrote songs published in Folkebladet, totaling eleven works to be issued in booklet form. Also reported is William Maier of Harrison showing a full grown wolf skin and earning a $10 bounty for a wolf killed near Thomas Lake, Diamond Lake, on December 28. A notice on the Annual State Seed Fair in St Paul next week is included, urging Kandiyohi county representation due to excellent crops and potential prizes up to 82 dollars.
