City marshal faces suit for $1000 over arrest incident

A civil action seeks $1000 damages from City Marshal George Flenry Stephens for arresting John E. Sellman at Willmar depot and imprisoning him in the city lockup overnight on December 1904. Catholics Celebrate Mortgage Payoff By Willmar Kandiyohi Parishes

The united St. Marys Willmar and St. Patricks Kandiyohi parishes have paid $900 mortgage on the parochial residence from subscriptions without appeal to elders. Since organizing under Rev. J. J. Malloy four years ago they purchased the Lehfield avenue property and saved about $4,400 in that period. A closing celebration will occur at Rev. Malloys home on Sunday evening June 15.

Temperance Supper Draws 300 At Wittman Hall Benefit

A large crowd of about 300 citizens attended a Friday supper and entertainment at Boude Hall in Wittman to support the temperance cause. Receipts totaled 72.35 after expenses, with proceeds aiding local temperance efforts. Ladies from eight churches organized, serving meals and coordinating a program featuring Rev H. C. Buell, Dr. Johnson, baritone Sam Nelson, Prof G Harold Powers, and local choir performances.

The Swedish-born pioneers have lived in Kandiyoh for over thirty years.

Train Wreck West of Morris Injures Rider and Engineer

A wreck two miles west of Morris near Aug Dapreicen farm occurred about 1 o clock Wednesday after a broken rail sent a Brownsville line train off track. Engineer Dan J. Schilling suffered a shoulder injury. passenger Wm. Fitzharris sprained knee. The train had just passed through a heavy drift. the engine leapt to the embankment and cars left the track. The engineer had volunteered to run the train the day before in the storm. wrecking crews worked Wednesday and Thursday to clear debris.

Port Arthur fell after months of defense by General Stossel and his troops. Hunger and dwindling ammunition forced surrender. Japanese losses reached seventy thousand, while the Port Arthur fleet also fell. Anticipated surrender terms were not yet published.

County Commissioners Meet on December 28 1904

The Kan County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned special session in Willmar Minnesota. They heard petitions from H E Anderson and others for county roads in Lake Elizabeth East Lake Lillian and from Gustaf Peterson and others for a county road in Willmar and St Johns. Reports favored granting both petitions but final action was deferred. Final order established a highway per committee report. The session including a 2 pm hearing and a later 7 pm reconvening.

Farmers' Restaurant Sold On Benmon Avenue

Farmers' Restaurant on Benmon avenue has changed hands with Monday’s purchase by Mesara P O Renrom and C M Kalbeck to run the business, succeeding the late Anton Rudbeck who retires but stays in Willmar this winter. Renrom comes from Roseland and Kalbeck has resided in the city. Rudbeck plans other work after retirement. Misses Ella and Leonora Boyd entertained Sher friends at their home last Friday night with games and refreshments, and were praised as royal hosts.
