Many residents take short trips to nearby cities

Birkeland and Gudmund Karwand traveled to the cities on business while numerous others visited relatives in Kandiyohi, Minneapolis, Jackson, Litchfield, Kerkhoven, and Des Moines area. Residents Mary O Neil, Miss Alma Johnson, Miss Hannah Hanson and many more share weekend stays and welcomes.

Peter Hong Marries Ada Cooper in Minneapolis

Willmar residents note the February 15 wedding of Peter Hong former Willmar mill manager to Ada J. Cooper of Wolford North Dakota. The ceremony was performed by Rev J W Prous of Our Saviors Lutheran Synod in Minneapolis. The couple will make Wolford their home where Hong serves as cashier for the State Bank. Also mentioned are University students visiting home for Washington's birthday and Willmar girls teaching away from home among those spending vacation in town.

Osseo anniversary events and lectures in Pope county

Miss Annie Landmark of Pope county arrived Saturday to visit until Tuesday. Hilda Rasmuson of Svea attended the Osseo reception Monday night. Students joined a candy party at Alice Gibson’s room Thursday. Miss Ella Boyd came from Benson for the Osseo anniversary. Bessie Olson and Selma Halvorson visited relatives last week. Saturday night entertainment drew a good crowd with about thirty dollars in receipts. The Osseo social Monday night drew many attendees with games and refreshments. Japanese orator Inui spoke on Japan’s mission to bring Western civilization, aiming for just and peaceful solutions. Prices for binder twine were lowered by the State Board of Control on Standard, Sisal, and Manila grades.

Mail Car Fire Delays Willmar Flyer. 22 Mail Sacks Damaged

A Sunday evening fire partially destroyed a mail car and 22 sacks of mail on the Willmar Flyer, causing an hour delay. The extra car carrying overflow mail was inspected in St. Paul and locked before departure. The Wayzata crew spotted the blaze. interior and mail were badly damaged. The car was set off at Willmar and returned to St. Paul the next day. Separately, local buyers purchase several cars including a Buick roadster and a Ford touring car, with deliveries planned in April. Farmers meeting for Pennock Elevator postponed by weather, now set for February 27 at 1 p.m. in Pennock. Mrs. Erick Obsberg and Mrs. Aug Hoglund will serve coffee in the Swedish Lutheran church tomorrow afternoon. all welcome.

Rumored Milwaukee Extension To Willmar Discussed In Towns

The winter rumor of a Milwaukee road extension from Hutchinson to Willmar circulates with no definite information emerging. The John B Agen company backs a Willmar cold storage plant and would welcome competition in rail transport. No firm plans confirm the extension despite strong local interest in Kandiyohi County and neighboring areas.

Osseo Anniversary Library Report and Town Notes

The Osseo Literary Society at the Seminary presented The School Ma'am to a large audience with strong actors and good coaching. A reception and toasts followed for new and former members. The society will repeat the show at Woodmen Hall Pennock next Monday at 8 o'clock. Also announced is the Willmar Street Fair Association annual meeting on March 2, 1909 at 8 o'clock in Kandiyohi Bank building to elect officers. Librarian Edith Frost reports 3118 books and 2218 borrower cards, 68465 total loans in five years, 15498 in 1908. 36 percent children and 17 percent non fiction. The magazine section holds 44 periodicals and nine newspapers. attendance remains around 30 daily. The Chase-Lister company is at the opera house for a week with Trilby Tonight and The Girl from 101 Ranch Thursday, The Devil Friday by special arrangement, Cinderella Saturday matinee, and a Saturday evening comedy to close the run.

Tinius Olson faces potential fines for aiding the Willmar City treasury after a recent arrest and arraignment before Judge Muller on a liquor charge. Clara City Bowlers Lose to Willmar

Clara City fared poorly in a bowling meet with Willmar at the local alley on Monday. Willmar won six of the seven games, led by scores such as 888 to 770 and 920 to 7. Ole Hildahl posted the highest score of 230 and the top average of 1864.

Child Burned Inkerosene Stove Accident at Grays Home

Three and a half year old Leslie Crawford Grays sustained facial and right hand burns when his father Rev Crawford Grays poured kerosene on a nearly out stove and a flash of fire struck him. Neighboring brother Ronald escaped with minor singeing. The child is resting easier and not expected to suffer permanent injuries to the eyes.
