Potato Ship Ping Market

Anton M Anderson and Samuel H Stauffer visited the city from the north county to study potato districts in Minnesota. A New London Farmers Elevator Company meeting aims to establish a potato warehouse and a shipping market, with plans to acquire the Cargill Bros grain house and the Neer elevator for potato storage.

Delightful Entertainers at Willmar Concert

The Eleonora Olson Concert company drew a large appreciative audience for their second Willmar performance last Wednesday. The program was delightful from start to finish, with each number earning a well deserved encore. The ensemble has earned an established place in local musical circles and will be welcomed back. The piano accompaniment by A. L. Nelson greatly enhanced the performance.

Injured by Hay Fork On Larson Farm In Irving

A 28 year old man named Alfred Olson was badly injured while unloading hay on Peter K. Larson’s farm in Irving township. The whiffle tree broke and struck him in the abdomen with force, leaving him in critical condition and in great pain. Olson is Rev Christian Swenson’s cousin. Swenson will become pastor of Swedish Lutheran Lebanon church at New London and Saron church at Spicer, moving to his new field in late spring.

Willmar Kandiyohi county pamphlet promotes settlers abroad

The Willmar Publicity Committee of the Kandiyohi County Commercial Club issued a 24 page booklet to attract farmers and visitors from other states. It features farm scenes, the courthouse, Green Lake beaches, livestock, harvests, creameries and the 1909 fruit exhibit, plus crop yields and views from older residents and former Illinois Iowa farmers. Copies cost five cents and are available by mail from Willmar’s Publicity Committee.

Minnesota Conference Holds Firm On Division Stand

Rev G Peterson reports no action on dividing the Minnesota Conference. No division will be considered until a portion forms an independent body and seeks division. Minnesota College at Minneapolis begins a four year course. The conference reaffirms opposition to liquor and supports county option in the upcoming election.

Willmar Hardware Change and Leadership Shuffle

Willmar Hardware saw a change last Saturday as William O. Johnson retires after selling his share to Ole Rogn of Sunbury. Rogn and E. K. Lund will assume active control, while Johnson plans a Canada trip to visit his brother Albert in Calgary and may relocate there.

Obituary notes longtime county surveyor J S Day

J S Day, Willmar area county surveyor since 1902, died Feb 13 in Fergus Ontario after bladder surgery. Born 1843 in Guelph, he lived in Willmar, contributed to Hawk Creek and Willmar ditches, married twice, survived by second wife, four sons, two daughters, and a daughter-in-law. He was a quiet, helpful progressive engineer and church member. Britta Olson obituary note follows.

Farmers' Institute in Willmar Mar 14 15

Plans for the Willmar farmers institute on March 14 and 15 progress under Gov A E Rice and E C Wellin. Prizes donated by Willmar firms will reward top exhibits of butter seeds grain and corn. Freshmen and Juniors Hold Annual Reception at Carlson Hall

The Freshmen and Juniors hosted a Saturday night reception in Carlson hall with class color decor, games, and an entertaining program. Ada Jorris was absent. Nellie Rasmussen attended. A Washington program opened with a patriotic song. Myrtle Jacobson recited The American Flag and tributes to great men were read by Sophomores. Etta Gabrielson, Anna Dolzinger, and George Haima presented Shakespearean pieces and prizes were awarded for other compositions. The team defeated Delano earlier and beat Litchfield 24 to 8, with a home game against Litchfield at 8:30 pm. admission 25 cents.

Feb. 21 recap notes the Aurora Y P 8 meeting at Grow River church. Carl Olson returned to Clinton after a week at his parental home, now clerking for Olson and Mickelson. Ladies Aid to meet Mrs. Peter Anderson Feb 23. Clara Clawson, a New London High student, visited home last week. Other locals visited relatives over the weekend.

Thirty Days for Petit Larceny Case in Willmar

E M Packerd received 30 days in jail for petit larceny after stealing a roommate’s suitcase from the Hub hotel on February 13. He sold the suitcase and an Edison graphophone to Clarence Huntley of Hancock for 15 dollars and fled toward Minneapolis. Sheriff Bonde arrested him at Litchfield. In municipal court Judge Muller fined Packerd 25 dollars plus 7 dollars costs, totaling 30 days. Nichols recovered his suitcase and the graphophone. Huntley sought return of his money.
