City hearing approves paving petition amid few objections

Nearly 300 property owners in the proposed paving district were notified. fewer than a dozen voiced objections. City paving engineers led by James E. Carroll reported costs and details while the council granted the petition, with bids to be opened later in March.

County Agents Busy Week With Multiple Meetings

County agent E L Rodegeb and poultry specialists N E Chapman and J Gary led several meetings in the county last week. About 50 attended in the court house, 250 at the Raymon Jon Motenaar event, and at Atwater Town Hall discussions covered poultry dairy products grading eggs and marketing.

Valley City Gummer murder trial witnesses summoned

Chief Ole Westgard and ex-chief A P Bergeson testified in the Gummer murder trial after returning from Valley City. Bergeson said he arrested James Farell in 1918 at Willmar. he did not recognize a photo of Farell as the man. Curt Freebers stood in during Westgard’s absence. Candy social set for Friday with dramatizations and meals.

Boy Scouts Benefit From Bethel Lutheran Program

The Bethel Lutheran church Boy Scouts hosted Friday evening entertainment with fifteen numbers and a speech by Atty Charles Johnson. Refreshments and candy sales aided the fund, yielding a net balance of fifty four dollars.

Funeral for Doris Berglund Held in Penrock Village

Funeral services were held yesterday for Doris Eleanor Berglund born October 1920 and died February 17 1922 at age 1 year 4 months and 9 days. Interment followed at Mumrelund Cemetery with Rev. Jesper Holmquist of Willmar presiding. Relatives include Mrs Arthur Lindblad and Lilly Walter Herbert and Grace Rudbeck.

Time limit extended for partnership income tax filing

The period to file partnership income tax returns has been extended to May 15 1922. The filing deadline for corporate income tax remains unchanged.

Willmar Schedules City and Partisan Primaries Same Day

City of Willmar plans its first city primary on March 14 alongside the state partisan primaries to save costs. County convention delegates must file with the county auditor by February 27, with ballots printed for about thirty three precincts. Sixteen candidates have declared for county convention delegates from Nerway Lake Atwater and Willmar.

Kat hha Koo draws big crowds at Legion home talent nights

The Legion presented Kat hha Koo to two packed audiences on Tuesday and Wednesday with a near full house on a third night. The play featured a large cast and elaborate costumes and stage effects. Conductor Mr Pickett led a successful performance with notable effort from participants and eastern organizers. Irene Berg, ten months old, died in Minneapolis on Friday from pneumonia. Funeral held Monday in Minneapolis.

Miss Magreta Peterson Rites Planned at Eagle Lake

Miss Magreta Peterson 77 of Bethesda Homes died Monday evening February 20 at Bethesda. Born in Norway December 21 1844 she lived at Bethesda for three years. Funeral Friday will be followed by burial in Eagle Lake cemetery. Left for California Mrs James Sanderson and daughter Ruth depart Monday for five weeks visiting relatives in Los Angeles Stockton Portland and Seattle.

Declamatory and oratorical contests were held last Wednesday at Kerkhoven with representatives from Morris Atwater Kerkhoven and Willmar. The Ameri can Legion banquet closed Friday evening with 129 exservice men registered. about 75 attended from outside Willmar, and a quarter were nonmembers who accepted the invitation. A fine meal was served by the Hanscom Post Auxiliary, and Archie Vernon delivered an influential speech on the bonus and national Legion issues.

A complaint filed in Splicer names Mrs. Alice Orred Elmer Orred and Mrs. Albert Ande son against Green Lake State Bank alleging coercion led to the deed of the Orred homestead to the bank to spare Oscar Orred punishment for alleged bank misappropriation. Post Office replies on Svea rural route schedule change

Residents on Svea Minnesota Rt 1 petitioned Congress and the Post Office over winter mail timing. The Postmaster General sent a reply noting carrier schedules now start at 7 00 a m and end at 4 00 p m in winter and shift to 7 20 a m to 5 30 p m in summer, and inviting further information for reconsideration if facts differ.
