The Willmar Commercial Club annual banquet drew large attendance with Mr. B. C. Wellin honored as past president. Rev J. Pearson and Atty O. C. Ronken gave toasts on local topics. A Book Club Lincoln party followed by a favoring buffet. Funeral notices for Robert Cyrus Hungberg. Lutheran Free Church Youth group hosts a musical to fund pipe organ.

Rowell and Frederickson Tie the Knot in City Wedding

Mr George B Rowell and Miss Irene Eleanor Frederickson both of this city were married Sunday evening at 7 at the Presbyterian manse with Rev L W Gade officiating Mayor Wellin departed Thursday for an extended trip to points out East.

Start for Two New Creameries to Gather Shareholders

A Pennock meeting led by J. L. Jarrett heard F. C. Johnson of the State Dairy and Food Department report on the dairy push. A committee of Elmer Anderson, Elmer Johnson, Jens Hanson and Mr. Melin will seek shareholders with 125 shares at 35 dollars to organize once 800 cows’ cream is pledged. A Raymond gathering drew about 100 farmers with talks by Mr. Schilling and F. O. Johnson, and momentum for the 1 000 cow pledge.

Swenson to Speak at Willmar Luther College Club

The Hon. Lauritz S. Swenson former U S minister to Norway will address the Central Minnesota Luther College Club meeting in Willmar next Tuesday February 24 at the Seminary 730 PM A public program includes Rev H O Svare and musical numbers followed by the club banquet at the Synod church basement with toasts and music Rev Chr Pederson toasts master Proceedings include a 4 PM business meeting The club has raised 2855 50 with 890 43 on hand and 1860 loaned to students Admission 25 cents benefits the fund Holstein breeders gather at Claug Andersons East of Willmar with prize cups and a planned farmers club meeting next Saturday led by Joel G Winkler State Dairy Commissioner Soprano Alma Shirley will sing at the Minneapolis School of Music recital February 25 she later appears in the Bethany cantata at Synod church February 24.

Multiple social visits, dinners, basket social at Kandiyahi school and visitors from Brenen ND continued the town’s social season.

Mrs Larsina Leitte wife of Jo hans Leitte an early Burbank settler died at home eight miles north of New London after a paralysis stroke aged 71 born in Hauge sund Norway she leaves a husband nine children and siblings in Norway and Canada funeral held Feb 10 at Crow River church Rev T C Tolo officiating pallbearers listed. Hulda Hoglund died on her 20th birthday after diabetes born Feb 17 1894 in Willmar she lived in Willmar Minneapolis and with Mission church ties funeral at Swedish Mission church Friday with Rev Ostling officiating six Hoglund cousins named pallbearers interment at Fairview.

Seminary Notes Highlights Awaiting Games and Events

Last Saturday the girls lost to the high school 6 to 3 while the second teams won 27 to 15. Oscar Johnson spent Sunday in Belview. Next Tuesday the S C club hosts a public program in the assembly hall with a banquet for members. Friday the girls face Raymond and the boys play the Wahpeton Indians at home. The annual play Scarlet Arrow is set for Thursday Feb 26. Osseo holds its annual banquet Friday evening. Alma visited home over Sunday.

Winter Touch Reaches Lake Linn Area

Winter weather arrives as residents report a week of local activity. Harry Erickson underwent appendicitis surgery at Willmar hospital last Saturday. Mrs. Lindquist hosted visitors at the Peterson home. Richard Hageman had a car accident the same day. Fah Jun Baptist services were well attended all week. A surprise tribute raised about 65 dollars for Mrs. Wm. Largon and children. Maggie Swenson stayed with her sister J E Johnson. Rail meeting drew crowds at Flann schoolhouse Monday evening.

Willmar Mourns Death of Illustrious Woman Sophia Rice

Mrs Sophia L Rice wife of Hon A E Rice died at the Rice mansion on February 12 age sixty one with the anemia cause. She was a longtime educator and civic leader in Kandiyohi County Minnesota contributing to libraries Red Cross and public welfare. Surviving husband and son Cushman A Rice were distant. funeral services held at Bethel Lutheran and St Luke's Episcopal church with large local attendance and numerous tributes.

TriState Operators Social in Willmar

TriState telephone operators in this part of the state enjoyed a social evening hosted by Misses Eather Sorenson and Juliet Signal from the TriState offices. The group toured the Carlyon building, rode a sleigh around the city, dined and decorated tables, then attended the play Alias Jimmy Valentine at the Opera House. Several outlying operators were unable to attend.

New Lighting System Installed at GN Roundhouse

The Great Northern roundhouse machine shop and coal shed received a modern electric lighting upgrade. Tungsten wall reflectors and four lights illuminate the turntable and shop areas, replacing old drop lights and wiring. Electricians from St Paul under Tom Jackson completed the project and turned on the system February 6. A State Labor Commission skylight addition and a gasoline engine tractor on the turntable accompany the improvements.

Proposed Charter Amendments in Willmar City 1914

A historic notice for Willmar Minnesota outlines proposed amendments to the city charter. It calls for repealing section 98 poll tax provisions and rewriting section 180 on contract and assessment with new bidding and day labor rules, plus appointment of three commissioners.

Cantata Bethany to be presented at Synod church

The Sacred Cantata Bethany will be presented next Monday evening February 23 at 8 15 at the Synod church. Admission is 35 and 26 cents. Text by William ApMadoc and music by W Rhys-Herbert. Miss Evelyn Grindeland directs with Miss Leonora Boyd on pipe organ. The 45 member chorus includes Alma Shirley Sofia Tallakgon Ingolt Grindeland Oscar Jerdee. Soloists are listed with Mary Lazarus Martha Jesus and others in a two part program. Bethel Church welcomes new members total communicants 280.

Osseo Society to Stage Scarlet Arrow Play at Seminary

The Osseo Literary Society of Willmar Seminary presents its annual play Scarlet Arrow on Thursday Feb 26. Admission 35 cents Reserved seats 35 cents general 25 cents. The cast features Gray Eagle Red Thunder Scarlet Arrow Wood Dove and others in scenes from the Mississippi to the Minnesota campus. Also scheduled is the Osseo Society annual banquet on Feb 27 and an Eastern Star social Feb 20 at Odd Fellows Hall. Attorney E J Larsen and Mrs Emile Muller Eggen wed Feb 10 at Lyle Minn with home in Virginius Minn after March 15. Monsieur Nichols of Minneapolis visited local families Sunday.
