Discussion League contest cancelled by last minute withdrawals
The Discussion League event at the high school was not held due to several schools withdrawing from the speaking contest. Last year’s contest was enjoyable and local fans regret the cancellation. Willmar planned full participation and a local representative to compete for honors. Charles Davis will represent his local High School at Macalester on February 17 in the state contest. Prof Dixon of the Willmar Bible School returned from Minneapolis after three weeks away. He underwent and recovered from an appendectomy at Deagenes Hospital and is now in good health.

Willmar High to Enter Sub District Declamation
Willmar High School will be represented at the Western Division sub district contest in declamation and oratory at Kerkhoven this evening. Four high schools Morris Atwater Willmar Kerkhoven enter speakers. Eight sub district contests are held in the division to select Western finalists. Willmar chose Frances Leslie and Ethel Magnuson for declamation with Miss Magnuson winning. Benjamin Rivkin is the lone entrant in oratory and will represent Willmar at Kerkhoven.

Girls in Willmar extortion scheme exposed and punished
Two young women from Minneapolis were caught in Willmar trying a bold extortion plot. Miss Theresa Highstrom alias Mrs McArthur and Mrs Ed Holland confessed to threats and a decoy letter scheme. Highstrom pleaded guilty and was fined 95 00 plus costs totaling 12 44, while Holland had not yet been arrested. The case serves as a warning to parents about keeping daughters under careful supervision.

Appointment of Head of Large Railway Division
J A Wreazner, superintendent of the Willmar Division, is reassigned to head the Sioux City Division after its merger with Willmar. A Livingstone, City Division superintendent, becomes assistant to supervise the new combined division. Petition Seeks Post Office Return of Mail Service
A petition with forty six signatures from Svea Route One patrons has been sent to the Post Office Department asking to restore the previous mail service. The change caused delays as Svea route carriers depart early, delaying Willmar and Svea route mail until Wednesday. The petition, led by Asa Bomsta and Ole EB Briekson, requests adjustment so Willmar carriers arrive at Svea as the Svea carrier begins routes. The current delay runs from November to April.
