Kandiyohi County Telephone Company Annual Meeting Recap

The Kandiyohi County Telephone Company held its annual meeting in the county courthouse with strong stockholder attendance. President Hemming S. Nelson led reports showing receipts near eleven to twelve thousand dollars and about 4300 spent on line improvements. Directors reelected include Nelson as president Haley as vice president Anderson as secretary Handy as treasurer amid discussions on revenue, stock assessments, and potential new lines.

Swedeberg pastor accepts Pennock Zion call

Rev. C. C. Guile of Swedeberg Nebraska has accepted the call to serve the Main retundant Zion Swedish Lutheran churches at Pennock. Rev. Gullen succeeds Rev. C. C. Bergquist who has taken charge at Forest Lake Lutheran congregation.

Willmar To Host Dassel In District High School Game

Willmar High School prepares for a Friday night district clash at home with Dassel High School. The team aims for another win to tighten its hold on the district title as improvements show in recent play. Also notes Bethel YPS and Vikor YPS hold monthly meetings with listed program items and speakers.

Discussion League Contest at Willmar Opens Next Wednesday

The District Discussion League contest will be held in Willmar at the Junior High School auditorium next Wednesday evening February 8. High schools Brackenridge Minneola Renville Fergus Falls and Willmar will be represented by speakers. The topic is the closed and open shop. Each school selects its best speaker from local contests.

District Meeting Held at Atwater

The Wilmar District of the Minnesota Conference of the Augustana Synod meets in Atwater with pastors and lay delegates from twenty two Swedish Lutheran churches in Kandiyohi Meeker Swift and Pope counties. Rev Jesper Holmquist and Charles Johnson attend for local congregations, hosted by Rev M LeVander at Atwater church. Union Officers Installed By Railway Clerks Union

The Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks Freight Handlers Express and Station Employes held their annual officer installation Tuesday evening. Officers for the ensuing year include Austin E. Sundberg President Harold Larson Vice President Wm A Thunstedt Recording Secretary Otto Trusson Financial Secretary and Treasurer Reuben Stromert Chaplain Earl Collier Sergeant at Arms Allan Wallin Inner Guard Robert Burns Outer Guard. A light social followed. The group meets on the second Monday monthly. a Valentine social is planned for February 13 with 75 cent tickets. Odd Fellow Initiation In Benson and Willmar Degrees

The Odd Fellow lodge conferred the first and second degrees on six candidates from Benson and two from Willmar last evening. Twenty-five Benson lodge members attended the meeting. The Christian Lutheran church will host a program and supper next Thursday February 9 inviting all to attend.

Pacific Sash and Door Co Organized in Willmar

The Pacific Sash and Door Company forms in Willmar with twelve stockholders and workers backing a $25,000 capital. Officers include Alexis Karlson as President and J R Seagreen as Secretary, with directors A Karlson J R Seagren E W Soderlund P E B Olson and Victor Nelson. The plant will be a modern sash and door factory at the Ras Musson Blacksmith Shop site on Benson Avenue, aiming for full operation within two weeks.

Willmar Municipal Band to Open Season at Majestic Theatre

Next Sunday afternoon at the Majestic Theatre the Willmar Municipal Band appears in its first concert of the season. Conductor Clarence Granoski says the ensemble is in excellent condition and promises a satisfying program with special vocal numbers by local singers and a mix of marches, overtures, polkas, and selections, featuring Miss Jennie Grodahl and Miss Ella Gunderson.

Willmar High School Defeats Litchfield 27 to 7 in Upset

Willmar High School crushed Litchfield 27 to 7 on Litchfield's floor as Willmar used sharp teamwork and accurate shooting to overturn a strong defense. Hahn led with six field baskets, while Sandin added five and Grace two. Willmar built a commanding lead in the second half, drawing praise from local boosters and rekindling support for the team.

Granite Falls basketball team plans a visit to the city on February 12 to meet the local high school gym squad in a single scheduled game. The Men's Athletic Club met Monday to decide to continue activities with about thirty members present despite recent wavering interest.

Hamline Glee Club to Perform at Willmar Auditorium

Hamline University Men's Glee Club from St Paul will sing at Willmar High School Auditorium on February 7. The group, known in the Northwest, gave 76 concerts last season across a six thousand mile tour. The Tribune of Bismarck praised the reception in a prior concert. The tour spans from Anoka Minnesota to San Francisco California, directed by Prof. J A Jaeger. Martin Solberg departed for Fremont Nebraska for an extended stay.

Happy marriage of local young couple

The marriage of Miss Anna C. Sletten, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ole Sletten, Woodland St, to Mr Arthur C. Johnson of 424 First Street, occurred Monday afternoon at one o clock at Winter Lutheran parsonage. Rev Arnt Vaaler officiated. Stella Johnson was bridesmaid and William Pearson was best man. After a short eastward honeymoon they will be at home after February 15 at 613 Third Street East.

Willmar athletic association held its annual meeting at city hall with about thirty stockholders present. Wm. ONeil presided as nine directors with three new members elected A M Endersbe Arthur Carlson and L R Keating. National Guard Unit May Move from Fergus Falls

National Guard Col Fulton of the Fifth Minnesota Infantry in ManKato notifies Henry Young that War Department orders transfer the Fergus Falls company to another city. Willmar may secure the unit if it acts quickly, with recruitment of sixty three unlisted exservice men for one year and others for three years. The unit will get equipment and pay, with eventual federal aid of 37500 to help build an armory, funded by $20,000 legacy from Gov. Rice bringing total to 43000. A petition for city site and 1000 financial aid plus 4000 from subscriptions planned. special meeting February 9 at Public Library basement to discuss. Other cities, including Park Rapids, also seek the unit.

Denver Tigers Touring Colorado Tech Five to Play Here

The Denver Tigers a Denver Colorado quint on a country tour will face Willmar City at Losa High School gym February 18 in the second annual tour. They have beaten Red Wing Duluth and St Paul quints on prior stops and feature a noted Indian star famed as a spectacular player.

School Children Examined In City In Week

Miss Inga Imadgh and Miss Woolson inspected all city schools and examined pupils with colds. Pupils with fever were sent home for safety to prevent pneumonia and resume studies quickly. The county nurse made home calls. 329 temperatures were taken. Forty three pupils were sent home for treatment. Eighty four home visits were made. Weighing and measuring in schools began last week. 608 pupils were weighed and measured. Nurses will start physical inspections at the Central buildings.
