American Legion Post to Debut Basketball Game

The American Legion Post basketball five debuts Friday evening against Howard Lake, a team that has already won several games and earned medals. The game starts at 8 p.m. with 50 cent admission for city residents and 25 cents for High School students.

Thieves Fail to Break Into Market and Local Notables Wed

Thieves tried to force entry into the Cash Market via a basement door, carving a shallow slot but abandoning the effort when they sensed approaching Frank Collier. Nearby marriages and holiday gatherings are noted, including Gent Lepse-Wangsness wedding at the Free Church and several Christmas Day dinners among local families.

A Monday evening gym session at the high school gym attracts many men who join an athletic club paying a one dollar initiation. A business meeting precedes hours of exercise with plans for equipment and a future by law rewrite at the next meeting led by T. Grace and Elmer Peterson.

Death at Bowbell Franklin Anderson 21

Franklin Anderson son of Mr and Mrs Richard Anderson formerly of the Syea community died at Bowbells North Dakota December 21 from appendicitis at age 21 Many friends from this county grieved His father is a cousin of Oscar Lindblad of Fahlan The funeral was held Friday.

Warming House for Skaters on Lake Foot

Funds are being raised to build a warming house near Foot Lake, the city’s popular skating spot. A coal stove and electric lighting will illuminate and heat the site, with volunteers and local merchants contributing to the project aimed at ready ice conditions.

Great Northern raises mileage rate effective Jan 1

The Great Northern Railway announces a .6 cent per mile increase, raising the standard rate from 2 cents to 2.6 cents per mile. Minneapolis fare climbs from $2.97 to $3.56, while St. Paul departures rise from $3.30 to $3.97. Clergymen rates increase from half to two thirds of regular fares.

Final Hearing on New Ditch Dredging

The county commissioners held hearings on Ditches 8 16 and 18 at the courthouse. Objectors opposed the dredging route through Lake Lillian Roseland Whitefield and Holland with costs in the hundreds of thousands dollars. The board deferred action until January 6 1921 at 10 pm due to numerous questions and complexities.

Christmas Eve Wreck Delays Mountain Rail Travelers

A wreck near Montrose last Friday split a freight into two, delaying heavy Christmas travel. Passenger train No 2 hit the freight rear, dampening the caboose and three cars, with engine damage. Trains Nos 10 22 and 18 faced delays. delays also disrupted paychecks for Great Northern employees and mail delivery from the East.
