Kerkhoven Killings and Cold Night Ordeal Report
John Shields, 46, confessed killer near Kerkhoven after fatally shooting C. G. Maxon at the O'Brien farm. Maxon, 25, and Shields argued over a horse race days earlier. Shields then used a borrowed gun to murder Maxon. In a separate grim note, Fordie Marshall, 19, and Walter Carlson, 18, survived a freezing night at the Skoog & Anderson slaughterhouse after seeking shelter during a blizzard while rabbit hunting. Both boys endured near-fatal exposure before rescue.

Willmar Couple to Wed at Swedish Lutheran Church

Kandiyohi county farm property known as the old Thomas Stanford place sold for 8100 an acre to Walter Rogene of Cambridge Illinois. The 160 acre improved tract near KandiyohI was purchased for 8100 by the Illinois buyer, with title to be managed by Kosene who will lease and relocate next spring. Other Iowa and Illinois buyers are eyeing Kandiyohi farms as local population growth rises with new settlers.

Destructive Fire Destroys Minneapolia Restaurant Building
A blaze at the 1882 built A B Han ecom building on Pacific Avenue damaged the back portion, with about 1500 dollars in damage and no insurance. Minneapolia restaurant owner W T Swenson estimates 1000 in losses, plus 800 insured, after fire destroyed interior and required rework. Four upstairs rooms damaged, while the rest escaped. Swenson is temporarily located at John Gund Brewing Co building while deciding whether to rebuild.

Large Estate Lost After Supreme Court Ruling
Mrs. Caroline Clark of St Cloud loses a quarter of a million dollars in estate rights after the Minnesota Supreme Court reverses a lower court decision in the case of Thomas S. McClure et al v Nehemiah P Clark et al. The ruling grants the estate to T Shepherd McClure of Minneapolis as administrator and heir. The dispute centers on property deeded by N P Clark during bankruptcy to Mrs McClure and a subsequent quitclaim by Mrs Clark, who believed her husband would handle the suit.
