Bounties paid to Torkel Torkeleon and Oscar Wrolaon are reported. School holidays begin Friday with planned Christmas events. A baby boy joins the Nelson family. several residents report travel, illness, and family losses. local businesses announce a new meat market and grocery store in Westberg building with staff Downs and Clayton. The Osseo literary society performs at the Seminary ball to raise funds for a gym. Local notices include church coffee, dances, and a new popcorn fritter machine drawing crowds.

City in Darkness As City Loses Power For One Hour

A power outage left the city without electric light from five to six in the evening. Dynamo number two failed due to a missing residual magnesium, forcing an emergency assembly of dynamo one. Peter Person, the youthful superintendent, supervised a rapid repair restoring normal service by six.

Mrs Martha Lundquist Celebrates 67th Birthday Party

Mrs Martha Lundquist marked her 67th birthday with family at her home in the Piretward. Five children and fourteen grandchildren attended, sharing cake festooned with sixty seven lights, symbolizing each year of her life, as they wished her continued health and happiness.

Assault charge heard in municipal court case

State of Minnesota versus Frank Nelson and John Longrail featured in special municipal term. Longrail testified he was assaulted by Nelson while resting in bed, with Nelson claiming provocation by indecent language. Judge Muller ordered Nelson to pay a fine and costs and urged payment today.

Willmar Tax Rate Detailed for This Year

The assessed property valuation in Willmar this year is 1,122,615 with a tax rate of 38.5 mills. Distribution includes School fund 15.9 mills state 2.74 mills county 3.53 mills city 16.34 mills. Last year’s rate was 37.9 mills. An extra 85,000 tax levy was approved for a building fund, adding 4.4 mills. without it the rate would be 34.1 mills, 4.8 mills lower than last year.

Two Dead in Great Northern Freight Wreck Near Hinton Iowa

A southbound Great Northern freight derailed near Hinton Iowa after trainmen mistook a switch, killing engineer Peter Gilbertson and fireman N T Hanson. Brakeman A J Hale and towerman CW Kemmerer were badly injured, with Hale missing a leg. The crash collapsed the tower and burned wreckage spread along the track. Gilbertson, a 27 year old family man, died after heroic efforts at the scene. Funeral plans were set with services in Norwegian and English. A dancing club in Willmar reported 56 members and an upcoming season opener.

Teeth Knocked Out On Milaca to Sioux City Run

Great Northern Express Messenger L H Mallette suffers two front teeth knocked out when a box weighing over four pounds fell from a shelf and struck his upper jaw while he was at work on the Milaca to Sioux City run. The event disrupts a longstanding, sound record during duty. The Civic Federation announces a supper at Bonde Hall on Friday evening December 30 at six. Admission 25 cents. Merchants Organize Kandiyohi County Merchants Association

Merchants from across Kandiyohi County met at the Commercial club parlor to discuss forming a Kandiyohi County Merchants Association. Officers elected include President O Berleness Vice President Jena Walen, Secretary P C Foran and Treasurer 1 800. Executive board members named and meetings set for February, April, July and October. The group aims to foster social bonds reduce distrust, curb unfair trade practices and improve credit handling. About 60 merchants joined, planning federation with state and national associations.

Blaze at Furniture Store Sparks Contained in Basement

A fire at Andrew Peterson’s large furniture store started from sparks in the basement near the chimney and was quickly contained by employees and a small hose. No major damage occurred beyond burnt joists above, as the fire department arrived only as a precaution. F W Howe spotted smoke while descending with a bureau and alerted others. Peter Soderlund connected a hose to a faucet to control the blaze. The incident is believed to have been caused by ashes left in the chimney.
