Prize Winners In 1914 Poultry Show

The Kandiyohi County Poultry Association held its Fourth Annual Show with a January date change. Officers were elected: W. M. Chase president, Mrs. P. M. Long vice president, Levert Osmundson secretary, Nels Balke treasurer. Directors include H. H. Bratt Atwater and J. Andrew Anderson New London among others. Prize listings name numerous breeders and varieties led by Miss Jesse F. Gordon, Spring Valley, Minn., and many from Willmar, New London, New London and nearby towns. The report notes increased membership to fifty three and improving finances. Next show slated for January.

Willmar Mayors Electric Plant Output Report 1914

Engineer Larson reports Water and Light plant output rose 50 percent over the past year with daily average output about 1530 K W hours and peak load near 12 12 KW. He notes boiler capacity shortfalls and higher fuel efficiency but urges boiler and pipe redesign for steadier operation and higher overload capacity.

Norwegian Lutheran synod announcements cover 81 upcoming services at MH 80 Willmar and Solomon Lake churches with Sunday School at 12 15 and 10 30 a m services. Christmas and juletta programs are scheduled at both Willmar and Solomon Lake churches with special singing and a children's program, plus Swedish Mission notes and Ladies and Young People events. Double Tragedy Shocks Atwater

Mrs Elizabeth F Bennett a widow who ran a restaurant in Atwater was shot in her kitchen last Thursday evening by Guat Palm and died shortly after The assailant fled through the back door and then shot himself in the head dying instantly The victim was preparing lunch for a lodge party when a member entered the room and learned of the shooting

Tragic Atwater double murder suicide shocks town

In Atwater a restaurant owner Mrs. A. B. Bennett was fatally shot by laborer Gust Palm who then killed himself with a Frontier Army revolver. Palm had taunted her recently and fled through a back alley. Coroner called willm ar listed murder and self inflicted death. Bennett leaves a widowed life with three or more children. Palm, about 44, formerly worked on local farms and hotels. Unclear past life details emerge as relatives contacted.

Evidence Links Atwater Murder to Thanksgiving Day Gun Purchase

A man believed to have bought a gun in Atwater on Thanksgiving day killed a restaurant widow during an argument over his entrance to the kitchen. The killer, who had recent funeral talk, was said to be on unfriendly terms with locals. The murdered woman was sister to William Francis of Hutchinson. Francis collected his sister’s remains and the killer was buried in Atwater’s potter’s field. Fatal Accident at St Paul Claims Mrs Wittick

An elderly Swedish woman, Mathilda Wittick, died at St Paul hospital December 3 after being struck by a car at St Peter and Ninth streets. The driver, John Smith, 247 East Seventh Street, said he did not see her in time due to melting snow on his windshield. Wittick, born August 5, 1841 in Göteborgs län Sweden, came to America in 1870 and married Wittick in 1879. Funeral services were held in Willmar and at the Lake Florida Mission Church with family from Sweden and the U.S. mourning the loss.
