Willmar Steam Laundry Changes Hands in Willmar

Experienced Grand Forks laundry men acquire the Willmar plant. Thomas G Nelson and Andrew Nelson of Gillby N D buy from Thomas J Logan. Logan sells to run his Mandan laundry. T G Nelson arrives to take charge. Andrew will arrive next week. Mrs Logan remains briefly to close the Willmar business. Both new owners are praised for experience and expected to uphold high standards.

Attempt Made to Wreck No 10 Passenger Train

A derailment attempt near Howard Lake disrupted Train No 10 en route to the Twin Cities. Suspects removed rail spikes and a barn angle, but the train was on time and slowed to about ten miles an hour when the rails shifted. No one was injured. four passengers in the mail car were shaken. Tools stolen from the company’s toolhouse were used. investigators from Minneapolis and Willmar are pursuing leads.

McGuire to Lecture Dairy Topics in Local Counties

Prof A J McGuire formerly of the Northeast Experiment Station will tour Grand Rapids and nearby counties December 22 to 24 delivering lectures on dairying. The schedule includes Hawick New London Spicer Kandiyohi Atwater Harrison Thorpe Lake Elizabeth with updates in next week's papers for any changes. The same issue notes the Book Club Christmas meeting at Mrs Thos Phalen’s home with decorations a luncheon for about thirty and a grab bag gift exchange.

Willmar couples wed in two ceremonies this week

Ada Broman and Edward Lundberg were married at Ada’s mother’s home in Willmar in a quiet ceremony conducted by Rev. Pearson. The couple will live at 519 Kandiyohi Avenue after Jan 10. Also Alice Berkness married George Pirrath of Two Harbors at St Mary’s parish with plans for a Tacoma wedding trip and a home in Two Harbors. The community extends hearty congratulations.

Farewell Sermon For Rev L W Gade D D

Rev L W Gade D D will preach a farewell sermon Sunday night at First Presbyterian Church in this city and depart as pastor after a successful pastorate. The service will feature a large chorus choir and male quartet with special music. He will be installed at Cleveland Avenue Presbyterian Church Virginia Minnesota next Wednesday evening.

Lake Morida December updates show Emil Peterson and daughters Viola and Florence visiting relatives in Minneapolis. Local visits include Harrie at Schenck’s, Ekblad clan at Skoglund home, and many neighbors at Holm and Thorson places. Swedish Society and Ladies Aid hold meetings with recitations, music, and refreshments.

PIONEER PETER M PETERSON DIES AT ATWATER

Peter M Peterson a Minnesota territorial pioneer died at Atwater last Sunday evening. Born June 14 1831 in Hofmansstorp Smaland Sweden he settled near Chisago Lake in 1852 and endured pioneer hardships. Survived by Emma his wife and many children including William Peterson Atwater and Harris B Peterson. Funeral Thursday December 10 at 2 pm at the Swedish Lutheran church Atwater with Rev G O Shoberg officiating.

Alma Wagnsness was absent due to sickness. Mr Wentzel and Mr Poe appear in substitute roles. Edithe Forsberg covered 5th and 6th grades at Lafayette building. Pupil humor about the letter Y. Saturday Rural Teachers met at the High School and formed a County Rural Teachers Club with Miss Osborn as president, Henry Johnson vice president, Florence Bergstrom secretary, and Guet Thunstedt treasurer. Officers plan a constitution for the next meeting.

Norway Lake Community Notes and Local Travels

Confirmation services were held at East Norway Lake last Sunday for a class of five. Residents report visits from George Stone who left for Bowman, and Albert Danielson with Peter and Ole Grytness of Beaver Creek Minnesota. Local social events include a Ladies Aid gathering, band concert attendance, a Woodman banquet in New London, and an upcoming entertainment in District 104 with sock and lunch donations requested. Skating on Lake Mary remains good, and several residents traveled to Minneapolis and Kandiyohi for visits and church events.

Great Poultry Exhibit Opens at City Hall Show

Five hundred fine birds of seventy one varieties are on display at the Kandiyohi County Annual Poultry Show held in the City fire hall. About 500 birds, 60 chicken varieties including 17 bantams, 15 duck kinds, 3 goose types and 2 turkey kinds, are entered by 33 fanciers. Admission is 10 cents. The show runs Thursday and Friday.
