Henry Young Elected Post Leader of American Legion

The A. F. Hanscom Post of the American Legion elected its officers for the coming year. Commander H. G. Young, Vice Commander H. L. Wadell, Adjutant A. E. Nordstrom, Finance Officer Robert Johnson, Historian Elroy Peterson, Americanization Officer H. Spencer, Chaplain H. A. Hengstler, Sergeant at Arms J. R. Curran. The Community Xmas Tree committee reported securing a tree via Mr. Russell Spicer. The Legion will help raise funds for the festival and deploy 20 Legion members as officers for crowd control. any surplus will fund food for the needy.

Dakota lignite cuts fuel costs for city

J. E. Gaare, a railroad man, ships carloads of North Dakota lignite coal. The first car sold quickly at nine fifty a ton, two more cars expected and sold. Lignite promising as fuel with a vast U S Geological Survey estimate and nine hundred billion tons in the district.

Willmar State Hospital adds two women’s cottages

Two new women’s cottages nearing completion will house about eighty patients each at Willmar State Hospital. The buildings, north of the main block facing the lake, will be linked by a service building with a centralized kitchen and tunnels for meal delivery. Hon. C. J. Swendsen visited to inspect the facilities.

Maier Bros Plan Move to New Willmar Farm

The Maier brothers and Miss Bertha Maier will relocate from the old homestead to a 160 acre Willmar area farm adjoining the city in early spring. They recently bought the land and will improve the property, renting the Harrison farm to Chas Miller-Atwater Republican Press. The new brick barn with modern fixtures, cement floors, steel stanchions, and a gabled drive will cost over 10,000 dollars. The Maiers, noted Morgan horse breeders, run a well known livestock operation.

Young Peoples Society Meeting Notice

The Young Peoples Society of the Norwegian Free Lutheran Church will meet next Wednesday, December 15, in the church. Five Willmar physicians create a joint Willmar Hospital and Clinic with specialized practices. Drs B J Branton A F Branton Frost Davison Ehrenberg will oversee surgery internal medicine eye ear nose throat laboratories obstetrics. Willmar Hospital will gain fifty beds. Davison Hospital becomes offices labs rest rooms and X ray. Davison nurses move to Willmar. a lecture room and library space above Palace Grocery. Remodeling targets completion before the new year. Miss Olive Nelson left for Benson to visit Mrs Julius Holland.

Aging Woman Fatally Struck by Train Near Stockyards

Mrs. Ingeborg Christianson a 77 year old resident, was found killed beside the tracks near the stockyards last Monday afternoon. Eyewitnesses are unavailable and theories suggest dizziness or a fall onto a moving train. The coroner Dr. Jacobs ordered the body removed to the undertaker. Her funeral is set for Saturday at the Free Lutheran church.

Willmar High Glee Clubs Offer Grand Concert

The Willmar High School Boys and Girls Glee Clubs, directed by Miss Neil S. Robbins, present a grand concert Friday evening December 17 in the High School gym. Admission is 25 cents. Program includes selections from The Messiah and various solo and choral pieces featuring many students.

Paving and Overhead Bridge Talks At Willmar Meeting

A December Willmar Commercial Club session focused on paving and an overhead bridge to ease track crossings. Talks urged safer First Ward passage, possible Fifth Street bridge, and charter amendments to permit paving under home rule laws. Also noted were plans for a 1921 American Legion District Convention and community notices.
