The Golfers Magazine Trophy final at Green Lake Country Club ends with Dr. H F Porter defeating S O Diffendorf after two rounds. Porter posts scores of 89 to Diffendorf 94, earning the loving cup as the series champion.

Royster Drafted as Candidate for Rail road Board

W. W. Royster, locomotive engineer from Glenwood, visited Willmar last Saturday through Monday and expressed strong support for the progressive cause. He is described as well informed on public questions and a personable, ideal candidate for the Rail road and Warehouse Commissioner board.

Nine men fined for gambling in city court

Nine men were arrested by Sheriff Bonde for gambling with dice last Saturday. They appeared before Judge Muller in Municipal Court Tuesday and were fined 540 dollars plus 2 50 costs each.

Eye Lost After Railroad Accident near Willmar

A. P. Hahn fireman on Great Northern freight No. 419 suffered the loss of his right eye after a metal fragment struck him while the train was near Lorne on August 22. He was treated at Cottonwood hospital briefly, then at Willmar Hospital where surgeons removed the eye yesterday after failed efforts to save it.

Will Exhibit Pig at State Fair

Miss Eunice Wagner daughter of Mr and Mrs John Wagner north of Raymond will represent Kandiyohi county in the Duroc Jersey hog exhibit at the 1922 Minnesota State Fair. The 14 year old has raised eight Duroc Jerseys from a litter of eight with one selected to compete in Minneapolis where it will face pigs from across the state. The pig weighed about 175 pounds and was born April 2. It will be shipped to Minneapolis Friday with all transport and lodging expenses paid by State Fair Management. Miss Wagner will be a Fair guest for the week and join a Girly Camp and tours of the grounds with instruction on agriculture exhibits.

Ditch 37 Completed By Engineer In County Hearing

A Monday afternoon hearing of the Board of County Commissioners reviewed the completion of County Ditch No 37 in Burbank and Colfax townships. The engineers certificate was accepted and the ditch, six years in progress, was finished about ten days ago despite earlier difficulties. Farmers affected attended and exchanged opinions on the matter. Mrs John Loven departed Friday for Turlock California after a month visiting relatives and friends here, with plans to visit Spokane Seattle and Portland en route home.

Champion Wrestling Match for Labor Day in Kandiyohi County

At the Labor Day celebration Melvin Samuelson of this city meets Fritz Nelson of New London in a county championship wrestling match. Nelson is the northern county champion. Pierce's two sons will also wrestle in a one fall exhibition, and a three round boxing match is planned at the fair grounds.

Hog sales trip reports strong prices across Midwest

B S Barker returned from Iowa and southern Minnesota visits to hog sales at Alton Sheldon Orange City Iowa and Le Sueur Center Minnesota. Hogs sold at sales averaged from 45 to 90 dollars each. He reports crops look better than ever.

Kandiyohi County Fair near ready for 1922 opening

Preparations ramp up for the Kandiyohi County Fair to be held September 20 to 23. Improvements include roof repairs to the auditorium and bleacher rebuilding capacity for 400 plus grandstand seating for 640. Registrations for races overseen by Wm C Johnson as demand grows for concession stands and carnival arrangements on the fair grounds.

Duroc Jersey Pig Winners to Represent County at State Fair

Three Atwater youths with a valued Duroc litter will visit the State Fair for a week. Clarence Melbye and Edward Peterson and Eunice Wagner will join boys and girls camps, touring grounds, lectures and amusements. Fair Association covers rail fare. two boys won honors last fall and Eunice will show a select pig from her summer litter.

French war bride in county jail after Tacoma arrest

Rose Loeb a French war bride faced arrest on Train No 2 at 11 30 by Chief Westgard following a telegram from Sheriff Morris of Tacoma. She carried a skim coat bag and money allegedly stolen and planned a trip to New York City. Held at county jail awaiting extradition papers.

New Press At Triune Printing Company Aids Work

A new automatic feeder Chandler & Price press installed at Triune Printing Company operates like human hands. Miller Saw-Trimmer of Pittsburgh supplied the feeder, with P. E Keen erecting the unit. The press uses suction to insert sheets and two metal arms to remove and stack printed sheets for orderly piling. The public is invited to view.

Mangled Fingers Hospitalizes Willmar Bakery Worker

Miss Hattie Hoglund, employed at the Willmar Bakery, suffered a devital injury to her right hand Wednesday afternoon when a large running fan fell onto her hand. The paddles struck the thumb and index finger, causing severe wounds that required multiple stitches.

Mail Door Slots Now Required for Street Delivery

Postmaster reports notice from the First Assistant Postmaster General requiring mail door slots or receptacles at dwellings served by street carriers. Delivery could be halted if homes lack slots within a set period, though exceptions and discretion may apply. About 36 percent already have slots or receptacles. two percent remain without, or will lose mail service after deadlines. Superintendent RS Pelgram and Mrs Pelgram of Henderson were guests.

Willmar Municipal Band Plays Browns Valley Four Days

Twenty members of the Willmar Municipal Band traveled by car to Browns Valley to provide instrumental music for the Traverse County Fair. They will camp to save hotel costs, using two Boy Scout tents for Bethel Lutheran church and sleeping gear. The band performs August 29 through September 1 with street parades mornings and fair grounds music afternoons and evenings, returning September 2.

Boy Shot By Playmate Warns of Firearm Dangers

Eight year old Wallace Johnson of Arctander was seriously wounded when a neighbor’s son loaded an unloaded rifle found in a shed with a shell. The bullet entered his mouth, passed under the tongue, and lodged in the neck. Wallace was taken to Kerkhoven where a doctor removed the bullet and hoped for recovery without complications. The incident serves as a warning to keep firearms away from children. Also included is a note on LeRoy Sandberg and family returning from vacation, with a 36th wedding anniversary observed in Milaca.

Willmar Labor Day Parade and Picnic Details

The City of Willmar plans its third Labor Day observance next Monday with a parade led by the Willmar Municipal Band assembling at the Courthouse yard at 10 o'clock. Civic groups may join. no floats. The procession goes east on Becker to First Street, loops to Litchfield, returns to the courthouse yard for speeches by Hon. George North of St Paul and music by Speech at Courthouse band. An afternoon picnic at the Fair grounds features races, boxing, wrestling, dancing, and a 2 o'clock ball at Athletic Park. Maple fireworks will cap the evening at the Fair grounds.

Strikers Aid From Baseball Page Receipts Totaled

A ticket sales drive last week for a Willmar baseball game raised 465.50 in receipts from 862 paid tickets. Profits from pop and cushions added 22.20, yielding 431.00 from tickets and 22.20 from concessions. Net balance 226.20 split evenly between Willmar and St Paul shopmen, despite lower than expected ticket sales.
