Thomas H Olson Dies Veteran County Official in Willmar
Thomas H. Olson longtime Kandiyohi County official and Civil War veteran died last night at Bethesda hospital Willmar after surgery. Born January 20 1848 in Stavanger Norway he came to America as a youth and settled in Edwards Township before moving to Willmar. He served as supervisor clerk justice of the peace school director and county commissioner and was chairman of the board from 1908 until his death. He leaves wife Lucy two sons Fred of Raymond and Ernest of Edwards with funeral next Saturday at St. Luke's Church Fairview cemetery. The court house flag is at half mast in his honor.

Forger Sentenced in Renville County Case
T Severing, arrested for forging a check in Renville last week, pled guilty and was transferred from Olivia by Sheriff John A. Vick. He appeared before Judge Quale with C. O. Bracke and L. D. Barnard present. Severing received hard labor at Stillwater penitentiary under an indeterminate sentence not to exceed five years, subject to good behavior.

Look Out for Forged Checks In Willmar
Two forged checks for small amounts were cashed by suspicious individuals in Willmar last Saturday night. The signatures matched names of young farmers from the vicinity, but bankers rejected payment upon deposit Monday. Local crooks are active in the region, so merchants and residents should exercise caution with strangers.

Tornado Ravages Benson Southwest Hawthorn County Deaths
A large tornado began near Benson at 6 30 PM and moved southwest causing two deaths and extensive destruction around Halloway Appleton and surrounding farms. Mrs Trager died in wreckage along with her four year old daughter others injured and farms burned or blown down. Wires down and damage feared to rise with more reports expected. A later church society meeting at Nov Luth Free church is announced with a program of musical and reading acts and refreshments.

Died in Willmar Hospital 67-Year-Old Norwegian Widower
Nels A. Rene of Kerkhoven Route 4 died at Willmar hospital yesterday from rupture of ulcerated appendix. An operation performed last Saturday failed. A single man and native of Norway he was 67 years 6 months and 3 days old. His brother Lars A. Rene of McIntosh Minn was at his death bed and brought his remains home Saturday. Funeral will be Friday afternoon at West Norway Lake church.

State Tax Commission seeks re assessment in Kandiyohi county
The State Tax Commission says Kandiyohi county moneys and credits are far below where they should be and has informed county officials of plans to re assess districts including Edwards New London and Willmar. The county board of equalization urged restraint but the commission persists in re assessing the money and credits in Willmar and other townships. A table lists assessed amounts by district with Willmar at 146 749 and the county total at 622 382. Last year the county total was 252 235 for moneys and credits combined.

Elevator man goes wrong in Duluth larceny case
C. C. Johnson once a wheat buyer for the Duluth Elevator Company was arrested by Sheriff Bonde on grand larceny charges for allegedly obtaining 1384.20 from the company by falsifying accounts. Discrepancies around 5100 were cited. Johnson issued tickets to fictitious names and drew company funds. He waived examination, bound over to October grand jury, bail set at 2500 but no bondsman. He is confined in county jail with a wife two children and no local family.
