The Willmar items note school opening on Monday Sept 4, various residents visiting relatives in Minneapolis and Atwater, couples traveling to seek work, and many neighborhood guests. Notable mentions include a nine pound birth, Dr. C Johnson returning from foreign travel, and Carl Wallace visiting from Minneapolis to Green Lake.
Five weeks before the Kandiyohi County Fair opens on September 20 Willmar plans a four day event with new street attractions and a grand horticultural show. The women’s department aims to surpass prior years with needlework baking wine paintings and preserves. Officials expect strong fruit and vegetable displays with premier premiums available from Secretary Markhus. The I T C Cash Carnival Co provides attractions along with McAlpin’s Military Band and Willmar’s juvenile band. City merchants offer bargain days and the streets will be illuminated to lure visitors from outside the county.
A lengthy list catalogues Norwegian language works and other titles added to the Willmar Public Library collection. Notable authors include Aubert Eline, Holberg Ludvig, Ibsen Henrik, and Margrethe. The compilation covers juvenile and adult fiction, plays, essays, and translations, with multiple volumes and assorted subjects.
Striking telegraph workers stay out in the city aligning with the Union, planning St Paul headquarters and vowing to remain idle despite some divisions returning to work. The Northwestern strike fund may reach 150000 for continued action, with on hand reserves aiding the struggle. A vacancy at the freight depot is filled by Mrs D A Prew from Dell Rapids as dy Operator, with 15 years as an operator, mainly on the Milwaukee line, and Mr Prew expected to arrive soon as relief agent. Sunburg aug 14 Bennie Wig visited at the Zillngboe home that Sunday. Miss Caroline Teige visited south last Monday. Mrs Gilbert Swenson visited at the Stensrud home last Thursday. An ice cream social was held at Skanabergs place last Sunday. Some farmers are through reaping and have commenced stacking. Mrs Johnson and daughter Josie visited at G Ericksons last Sunday. A basket party was held at T Odahl s last Sunday. All attended report having had an even time. Sophie and Rhyuard Swenson entertained many friends last Sunday. All report having had a nice time. Ash Torkelson came usar losing Die Opble vis TeMble horse Tat Saturday while reaping. They say it was owing to overwork. Some of our young folks intend to go out picking choke cherries I got Sunday, but rain kept them home. Some boys talk of going into farming and boarding themselves. Better look ground for s housekeeper boys. Last week mis a Thea Tolles was ill. should have been Thes Torkelson. We report the death of Misa Minnie Freece near Sunbury. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs T Freece, long illness with quick consumption. Remains laid to West Norway Lake church cemetery Rev Sotendahl officiating. Nineteen teams in procession to her resting place show her large circle of friends. Sympathy to the bereaved.
Aug 24 notes detail Mise Thea Lesteberg working for 1A 0, Ole Houge helping Ole Njou harvest last week, Mrs G O Hough visiting Kirkhoven, new Nogord store nearly ready to open this week, Miss Elle Peterson visiting with Mixa Loulee Johnson, and many residents finishing grain and stacking. An addition to the town hall for road machinery storage is noted and Harrison Van Vorst plans to move to a North Dakota homestead near Bowbella.

A county report notes wheat yields may exceed last year with forecasts of not less than 22 bushels per acre from local farms. An insanity case involving Birkeland’s daughter is mentioned but not linked to crop outlook.

Lake Andrew notes Aug events include harvest nearing finish this week and plans for a wedding. Stengrim Arneson visited Kerkhoven last Tuesday while Gunder Swenson plans to start shock threshing this week. Miss Mary Tollefson nearly blind from ivy poison while picking berries. John Nelson will head to Murdock next Friday with threshing rig to begin shock threshing. Martin Walby finishes a house for Hande this summer. Arne Larson of New London visited. New London and West Lake Telephone Co. progress slow due to pole shortages. Funeral for A P Skoglund noted as a respected neighbor and founder of Florida Mission congregation. Wu Geer family visited New London last Friday.
The Gustavus Adolphus College Quartet performs Saturday evening at the Luthan Free church in Willmar, drawing a large attentive audience. The program features Italian, Swedish, and English pieces, with local musicians J A Lindblad and Richard Freedholm among attendees.
A community program features E. Services, Lambert Lite Brown Church, Lindblad Leah, and Covil thet Dawe with a vocal quartet and a solo. The concert starts at 8 o clock with admission 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. Mrs Peter Christianson of Montevideo arrives to attend Mrs L E Miller as nurse. Editor Covell of Atwater and Swan Olson travel for probate business in county seat. Elizabeth Moore returns to Minneapolis after visiting her sister.
