Tin Can Loaded With Dynamite Accident

Last Sunday near Penick a tin can packed with dynamite exploded when Christenson and Christii boys pierced it while shooting gophers. Shonard and Roy Christenson sustained arm and neck wounds. both were treated at Willmar Hospital. Both boys remain hospitalized but are recovering.

Family Reunion at the Somerville Home

A 22-member Wallace Somerville family reunion was held at the W. E. Somerville home with a large picnic at Homewood Park. Attendees included W. B. Somerville, Esther, Viola, Earl and Wayne Somerville, Merrill Earl Chesebrough, and others from LeRoy, New Ulm, Cincinnati, Wilmar, and surrounding areas.

Oakland and Ford Crash on Kandiyohi Atwater Road

A Sunday afternoon collision near Kandiyohi and Atwater involved Wm. ONeil in an Oakland and Ed. Norine in a Ford. Trees blocked view at the crossing, wheel and windshield damage ensued, no serious injuries though Norine family and bystanders were shaken. Later reports note no party faced charges. Also covered are local political slate, a parcel shower at Eagle Lake, and an imminent state game department confiscated arms auction at the Minnesota Capitol steps August 20.

Prominent Citizen of Lake Lillian Passes

A. M. Hedin, prominent Lake Lillian citizen and former county commissioner, died at his home on August 6 after seven weeks with an internal cancerous illness. Born 1861 in Mockfjärd Sweden, he immigrated to Lake Lillian in 1831, worked as carpenter and machinist, then farmed and served in public roles, including school district and township posts. Funeral drew vast crowds. services at Christine Church were conducted by Rev. Berg and Rev. Sorenson. He is survived by wife Anna Linn and children Ella, Florence, Bertina, Emil, Esther, and Albin.

Obituary of W W H Williams from Roseland and Willmar

W H Williams born May 15 1854 in Helston Cornwall England died August 1 after kidney trouble. Survived by wife Susie Campbell and three children Edward B Williams Mary Van Ort Elizabeth Williams, two grandchildren. Funeral at Fifth Street home conducted by Rev J R McCullough, interment Fairview. Pallbearers named. Crosby to play at local grounds Friday

Next Friday afternoon at 4 30 will be a great day at Willmar when the local boys cross bats with the Crosby baseball team. They are coming through from Lamberton and have toured central Minnesota. Crosby posts a strong 32 wins against losses record. Pitchers Roy Patterson and Irl Morse headline the staff with Beyers anchoring behind the plate. Local merchants urged to close shops or let clerks attend the game for grandstand seating. A big game is teased for Sunday as well.

Falling Brick Injures Two at Willmar Sash and Door Plant

Last Saturday around ten, a freight train passing the Willmar Sash and Door Factory caused a brick coping to fall striking two workers in the dry kiln area. Ole Erickson and Nela Bakken were treated at Willmar Hospital for scalp lacerations and were improving but will remain hospitalized. Local items note visits and travel of residents, with several relatives and visitors listed from Duluth, Grand Rapids, Minneapolis, and beyond.

Auto Collision Near Green Lake Injures Four

A serious 12:30 Sunday crash near Spicer involved a Moore car and a Buick. Mrs Rand and a four year old child were badly hurt, with S Hagmeyer sustaining a scalp wound. all were transported to Willmar after initial care at Dr Devison cottage. Buick occupants unhurt. Damages were extensive. careless cornering and speeding cited.

Narrow escape in west of New London auto crash

Miss Amy Bergstrom drove a Chalmers that ran off the embankment west of New London last Sunday afternoon about 4 o clock. Louis Halvorson freed her from beneath the car and both were taken to hospitals with Bergstrom nursing bruises and Halvorson a broken rib.
