Camp schedule for No. B troops to Lake City

No. B members depart Saturday morning on No. 10 to Lake City for a fifteen day camp. A special St Paul train will form for over fifty personnel. The first day includes quarters equipment and ration drawing. Daily activities follow including drill, range days, sanitation lectures, and shelter tent pitching with battalion commander review. Parade with hand follows at 6 p.m.

Serious auto accident injures Osuld Knutson in North Dakota

Osuld Knutson, a well known thresher east of the city, suffered a severe accident in North Dakota that required amputation of his right knee. He traveled with Olavey Anderson to Warner, then to Hatton and Grand Forks, where a door rod penetrated his knee during a crash, and he was taken to a Grand Forks hospital. His son Walter and Mrs. Arthur Kleven visited him. he is recovering. The piece also notes the Farmers Co operative Elevator at Litchfield burned to the ground Saturday night, with several sheds saved and a total loss for the elevator company.

Willmar Municipal Band Concert On Courthouse Grounds

The second of four open air concerts by the Willmar Municipal Band unfolds tomorrow evening at the Courthouse grounds with a program including March 8t Overture Arcadia and selections by Lorenz Laitspiel Berry and Ziz Confrey. Mrs. Oleson spoke at the courthouse Wednesday evening denouncing the Hack-Cummins railroad act and Newberryism.

Waters pays fine after one week in county jail

Charles Waters of Lake Elizabeth faced Municipal Court for maintaining a nuisance and was found guilty. He chose to pay a $98 fine and costs after serving seven days in jail, with Attorney O A Oberg representing him. State and defense agreed he absent himself from Kandiyohi County to avoid further arrests. A separate case against Bert Wolf and R B McClintie was postponed to August 23rd due to bail issues and legal liquor selling charges.

Swedes trip returns by Charles and Swan Nelsons

Charles Nelson and Swan Nelson, living south of the city, came back Friday from a three month trip to Sweden. Swan visited his mother at Nasum and Charles stayed with relatives at Vanga. They traveled aboard the Oscar II, taking eleven and a half days from Copenhagen to New York. An ice cream social will be held by the Mission Circle of the Baptist church on Thursday evening on the church lawn featuring ice cream and cake.

Preus Visit Noted by State Leader Relative in City

Mr and Mrs Paul Preus of the Federal Land Bank of St Paul stayed several days in the city with friends. Mr Preus is brother to Gov J A O Preus of our state. Preus stayed at the William Oleum cottage at Green Lake.

Mrs. Andrew Larson of Willmar Dies in Battle Creek

Mrs. Andrew Larson of this city died Saturday at Battle Creek Michigan after a long illness at Sanitarium Hospital. She underwent a grave operation and later relapsed died just after family could reach her. The funeral is set for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Ella Avenue residence. The bereaved include husband Andrew Larson daughter Clara Tallman and Archie M of Weiser Maha who will attend.

Miraculous Escape Near Norway Lake Curve

A party of four from Willmar escaped serious injury after their Chandler six touring car rolled over on the Norway Lake road four miles north of town. Driver was the former. Jim Haukland thrown free helped others out. Haukland injured eye. two women bruised needing stitches. Car damaged with broken top windshield and steering gear. Sent to Jolly-Baker garage for repairs.

Local tailor returns from western trip

J Eicander, a Willmar tailor, came home after a month visiting Denver and Cheyenne. In Denver he met his sons Reuben and William, directors of an 11 piece orchestra that provides music in Denver’s winter gardens nine months a year. In Cheyenne he saw Frontier Week July 24 28. The brothers performed during the event and the Ekander orchestra has more dates than it can fill.

Improvement at Willmar Depot Prompts Platform and Pavement Work

The Great Northern depot at Willmar undergoes improvement with a below par wooden platform being replaced and brick pavement to be laid. Walter Jorgenson and Miss Bernice Mildred noted in records. Bills were joined in seven clauses by G Johnson last Friday. Witnesses Harvey W N Clark listed.

Willmar to meet Raymond at ball park next Sunday

Willmar hosts Raymond at 3 p.m. next Sunday with Raymond boasting a 14 of 15 1922 season mark. Kohl the Raymond pitcher held Granite Falls scoreless for 18 innings and will start again, Lan key catching. Manley Ogrem of Kandiyah will play in Willmar’s outfield. Johnson or Gleason to pitch for Willmar. Raymond beat Co. E 11 to 4 last Sunday.

Wimpu s Club Organized in Willmar City

A Wim pus Club has formed in Willmar after slow efforts needing at least twenty members aged forty or older. Dues are monthly, a meetings site is being sought by a committee, and a community Wimpus may be used when notoccupied by members. Members aim to have locations ready by August 15. Separately, Arthur M Swenson of Willmar and Mr Sanders of Iowa were in an auto collision near Green Lake on Tuesday forenoon. both cars were northbound toward Spicer, the Iowa vehicle turned to pass a side road and collided with them. damages were slight.

Sacred Concert by Church Choir in City Tonight

A sacred concert by the North Side Mission church choir of forty five voices will be held Tuesday evening August 22 at the Swedish Mission church. Led by conductor A L Hyassman, the program includes a Ladies Quartette and features Mrs Hugo Culberg as accompanist. Proceeds benefit the Nan Chang District church building in China. Delivery begins at eight o'clock.

Driving While Intoxicated Case Ends in Fine

John Powers of Murdock pled guilty in Municipal Court to driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Green Lake road. Judge Muller fined him 56.10 dollars including costs. Attorney for the defendant was John I. Davis of Bengon. A mass meeting of strikers at the courthouse featured James A. Taylor, Machinists official, as speaker describing his national role. A. M. Watbey and Bjorberg purchased the stock of H. W. Shoemaker’s Danube store and began a sale that will run until stock is sold, Bjornberg traveling daily from Danube.

New Ladies Coach Hazel Stutsman Joins Bristol Board

Miss Hazel Stutsman of Bristol Indiana is appointed as the new ladies athletic coach by the Board of Education. The vacancy replaces Margaret Koch and Stutsman takes over duties as the primary coach for girls sports at the city school.

First Paving To Be Open August 17

Paving progresses rapidly with Sixth Street reaching Litchfield Avenue tonight and work moving toward First Street next week. If all goes to plan, paving east of First Street opens by August 17 and most of the downtown district should be usable by the county fair with all cement expected by October 1. A record 900 yards had been laid by noon.

Car Stolen From Murdock Party

A 1917 Ford touring car owned by John Kavanaugh of Murdock, brother of Jim Kavanaugh, was stolen from the corner of 6th Street and Pacific Avenue last night. Lewie Krattenmaker of Murdock drove the vehicle and left it at 9 20 pm. When he returned twenty minutes later the car was missing.

Legion and Auxiliary Meet Thursday Evening

The Austin F. Hanscom Post of the American Legion and Auxiliary hold its regular monthly meeting at Lundgren pavilion on Gree Lake in Spicer Thursday August 19. Guests are the Maids of Honor from the Kandiyohi County Queen of Honor contest who receive tokens. Ex service men from Willmar Spicer New London Atwater are invited. After business there will be swimming a lake baseball game and music. Lunch by Mr Lundgren for a small sum. Those attending should report to the courthouse by 7 pm for transport.

Thresher breaks arm while belt entanglement

J. C. Miller, a thresher on the Austin Adamson farm four miles southeast of town, was thrown from a fly wheel last Saturday around three o'clock while placing a belt. The wheel caught between gear and wheel, causing a fall that broke both bones above the wrist of his right arm. He was taken to the Willmar Clinic where Dr. E. H. Frost set the arm.

Wakefields Move to Fairmont After Trading Home

Mr and Mrs M W Wakefield relocated to Fairmont last Friday and traded their Willmar residence for a Fairmont home described as one of the city’s finest. They moved from the state area about 12 years ago. The Fairmont mansion stands on Woodland Avenue along a lakeshore. The Ladies of Bethel Lutheran church announce a food sale featuring bread cake cookies and donuts at Palace Grocery next Saturday afternoon.

Atwater Man Injured When Bench Gave Way

John Lipsit a carpenter of Atwater was severely injured last Wednesday while painting his house. He stood on a ten foot ladder on a work bench when the bench collapsed causing the ladder to fall and him to be hurled to the ground fracturing his left arm and rupturing his intestines. Neighbor Nels Thompson alerted aid and Dr. O M Porter was summoned. Lipsit was taken to Litchfield Hospital the next day. Dr. Ed Moren of Minneapolis was called. One chance in a hundred to survive was reported. Arm was set last Monday and he was improving as well as could be expected. His two daughters from Findley and Aneta North Dakota arrived to visit earlier this week.

Young Girl Fractures Elbow At Green Lake

A nine year old daughter of Mr Sve of Sioux City Ta fractured her elbow in a fall at Green Lake last Sunday morning. The Sve family are staying at Tepestonka Hotel. She was taken to the Union Clinic at Willmar where an X ray confirmed the fracture and treatment began.

Kern Anderson fractures arm while diving at lake

Kern Anderson son of Mr and Mrs AA Anderson fractured his arm above the elbow last Wednesday afternoon while diving from a pier at Eagle Lake. He was taken to Willmar Clinic where the bone was set. He is reported to be getting along nicely.

Crops in Kandiyohi County Show Good Yields

A 1922 harvest survey from Kandiyohi County notes strong grain quality and promising yields despite reduced acreage. Wheat ranges 12 to 23 bushels per acre, oats up to 80 bushels, barley 20 to 50, with notable reports from Orphans Home at Eagle Lake and Willmar area farms.

Two Young Men Departed for Lake Julian Sanatorium

Henry Elingson of this city and Emil Arthur of Spicer left for treatment at the Lake Julian Sanitarium at Puposkey near Bemidji. The American Legion organized the trip and the county will cover the expenses.

Motorcycle Crash Near Pennock Injures Rider

A Sunday morning crash two miles west of the city involved Arthur Rasmusson and a motorcycle colliding with a car driven from a farm home. Rasmusson suffered a gash above the left eye and injuries to a leg, and was taken to Willmar Hospital for treatment.

Bethel Sunday School Picnic Announcement

The Bethel Lutheran church Sunday School plans a picnic next Sunday on the north shore of Esgle Lake. Buses depart church at 1 30 p m for the grounds. Ice cream and cake will be served to the children for a fifteen cent charge. Boy Scouts will serve refreshments besides ice cream and take part in contests for kids. All Bethel members and families are invited to attend.
